Google has launched the new 4K-supporting Chromecast Ultra at $69. The HDMI streaming "puck" is an upgrade to the existing Chromecast 2 that sells for $35, although both items will sell concurrently depending on your needs. 4K is like 3D on home televisions. LAME. A stepping stone if you will but LAME!

3D is dead for the home and 4K will be too soon. It hasn't even taken off yet.

8K is where it's at. Been looking forward to that for about 8 years now.

But the avg consumer is dumb as a box of rocks (myself excluded of course) and buys into this crap like sheeple being herded.

I bought the original Chromecast and it was a disaster. Constant crashing, no way to play local content, and heaps of problems. Google never did correct those issues in the original. I moved on to Roku and Fire boxes for my TVs. I'll stick with the ones that stuck with me.

I agree, I bought the Chromecast 2 to only return it a couple days later at Best Buy. I prefer my Roku 3 as it runs better is more compatible with my iPhone.

My plan for the Chromecast was to easily surf the web via my Safari browser from my iPhone and it does not do that. If I use a tablet or computer it will work, but not iPhone. I have tried downloading apps and search the web for hours on a solution for the iPhone and there is none. So I returned it and love my Roku 3.

I have had nothing but success with my original Chromecast. I can stream my mkv files, mirror my laptop to edit photos(using my 50" tv as a second monitor) in lightroom, and mirrorcast my Nexus 5. Sign me up for the 4k chromecast.

All the devices that you guys mention suck (firestick not so much) Do your home work before you spend the $$$, buy a Nvidia shield or a nexus player if you think the Nvidia shield is to expensive, even those android tvs from china are a better option.
