Hi,
im not sure whether to put this post in here or in the DVD±R drives, but since im new to this forum and new to the dvd writing world i thought id stick it here :p

well ive decided to replace my pc cdrw drive (burns at x8 max) and my dvd rom drive with a new dvd rw drive.
reasons for the replacement is that burning normal cdrs and cdrws takes tooo long with my current cdrw drive and ive recently purchased a ps2 and would like to back up my ps2 games.
so i would like a dvd rw that can burn at fast speeds, but also good for making back ups for my ps2 games. Budget wise i have about £100 to spend.
Ive done abit of research at www.scan.co.uk and www.overclockers.co.uk and dvd rw drives seem pretty cheap nowadays...£50 for a 'NEC ND2510A Dual Layer 8x DVD±RW ReWriter (Black) - OEM (CD-008-NE) '
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/DVD_RW_Drives.html

also from reading this forum ive come across terms such as dvd9, dual layer, large TOC, DVD Decrypt off of AD.

can anyone please help me clarify what these terms mean and what specs makes a good dvdrw drive and if there are any recommendations.

Thanks.

1. DVD9

A single-sided, dual-layer DVD that can hold 8.54GB (or fours hours) of audio and video data.

2. Dual Layer

As above.

3. TOC

You'll need to buy a mod chip to play ps2 backups.

Welcome to our little forum mho64!

I can certainly sympathize with your confusion regarding the terms. When I got my first DVD burner I was a reasonably knowledgeable network administrator and still felt like I didn't know anything. For more help understanding the "language" of digital video and DVD backups you should start with the Glossary tab at the top of the page. When you find something there that doesn't make sense to you after reading it the first 5 times, come back and post another question and we'll see if we can't clear up the confusion.
