Hello all,

Here's the problem: I am trying to create a backup copy of AOE expansion, however each time I try to burn it with Alcohol 120 I get numerous disk read errors. I've done some reseach on the matter and it seems that it's due to the copy protection on the game. I was just wondering if that is correct?

Thanks!

Hi,

If the disc is protected by SafeDisc then the errors are normal. Just let Alcohol do it's thing :)

id suggest also burnin the game on a cdrw and enable the hide media option in alcohol... if you dont know if or not your drive is EFM capable. That game is a older version of safedisk... if i remember correctly its a 2.8 which is too hard to backup.

Alcohol did complete the burn with the safe disk 2/3 option. Despite the disk read errors it did finish. Now I can't use the CD, I get an "Insert the CD in drive x" message. What's up with that? Have to check on the EFM capability. Thanks.

Hi,

What make/model is your drive? Capable hardware plays a key role in a successful backup :)

Im guessing that you dont have a EFM capable drive but it shouldnt matter as you used the safedisk 2/3 data type, just make sure that Ingore media types and bad sector emulation are turned on under emulation and extra emulation in the options on alcohol 120%

Hi,

It appears that your TDK is an OEM NEC 1300A which isn't a 2-sheeper (can't write EFM correctly) so you won't be able to make a working copy that doesn't require some sort of emulation.

The next best thing would be to pick up a good inexpensive 2-sheep CD/RW such as the Lite On 52327S or the Asus 5232AS both of which go for around $30 and are great for backing up games.

Or you could try 2005's suggestions.

Hi,

It appears your TDK is an OEM Lite On 48246S which is a definite 2-sheeper so I'd roll with it and see how it goes. Just remember to burn sloooowww, something like 4 or 8X.

I'd also recommend updating the firmware for it if you haven't done so. Here's a link:
