L am using the above product to convert dat fles into avi, mpeg etc but cannot seem to make it work or the discs just won't play. Can anyone reccomend a better converter?

Hi,
Try TMPGEnc. If your current file is an AVI use the guide below.

try vcdgear (freeware) and very good and will handle your dat file conversions and a number of others.
