Hi

Well I finally broke down and picked up a DVD writer yesterday and did a backup of my "Eagles - Hell Freezes Over" DVD, however it did it with compression I assume this is to fit EVERYTHING on a single DVD as it is 7.5 gig in size. Now I burned this on a DVD+RW disc and notice that there is A LOT of pixelizing in the picture as well as a few other things. The sound seems perfect however.

Is there a way to rip out the "Extras" so that I Wouldn't need to use compression?

Should I use software other than DVDXCopy Platinum?

Is it because I used a DVD+RW insted of a DVD+R disc?

Is it simply because of all the compression?

I look forward to you're answers and thank you in advance!

You can use advanced mode in Platinum to remove title sets. But I would start with the media you using first. What is the brand and the speed of your media?

You can also try the free stuff :) DVD Shrink and DVD Decrytper.

I was using an HP DVD+RW disc for this, could this be the issue? Would I notice a difference using one of my Kodak DVD-R discs?

How do people generally rate the compression level, above a specific point or percentage to be bad quality?

Would I be better off stripping out the "Extras" and language audio tracks that I don't need or won't use?

Does the RW's play ok in your pc? And I'm not sure if Kodak discs will help, because I've heard those a poor quality media.

For those kind of DVD's I would use Shrink and Decrypter.

You think Kodak is a poor media? Well I will try it out and see what happens.

I will also do some tests with a DVD+RW so I can try different types of burns.

Thanks a lot!

I recently wanted to backup Schindlers list which is DVD-9, dual layer so I decided to do a partial back up to reduce or remove compression. After many attempts with DVXCOPY and other software I abandoned the idea because Xcopy reported that it couldn't find the break in the layers on the DVD.

In the end I successfully backed up the whole DVD using INFINITI Samurai Yellow (which I can recommend)

hope that helps
Kate
