BitTorrent - Without a router?

Hi, I recently disabled my router because my other computer was stolen. Before when I was using the router, I had a static IP address and I opened up ports 6881-6999. Now without a router, I have a few questions in mind about configuring my computer for maximum performance when using BitTorrent. First, do I still need a static IP address? Second, do I still need to open ports? Third, are there any ways to make BT faster now that I don't use a router anymore? Please respond with any comments or suggestions you have for me. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

No,No and now that you dont have a router your bit torrent will be full speed well 80%of your max download speed. For your router to download .torrents foward the ports 6881-6889 thats what i have mine set to and it works like a breeze. btw what client are u using for downloading torrents?

well i have a 256kb connection i know its crap but oh well. i get usualy 20-24ks. wat speed do u have?>

yeah, i have about the same. but i am in a dorm running off of dsl and i get some crappy connections sometimes. i dont know if it is because of the isp or if it has to do with my computer and the settings. i read that stuff you guys said about dedicating certain ports to bittorrent but i dont really know a lot about that. any quick info?

I have a 3 mpbs I usually get speeds up to 100 kb/s and max speeds of 250 kb/s.

My max upload rate is 30 kb/s. And I use BitTornado with UPnP Port Forwarding.

Hi, I NEED HELP
I am a university, and they have put some type of blocker, most likely a firewall, and I have done everything on all the sites with forwarding ports and my speed is non-existant. Any ideas? PLEASE, I need to find a way to punch a little hole so I can download. Thank you.

Hi all
Please help me out this is driving me mad.
The Set-up is that I have . . .
I have a pc running XP with SP2.
Windows firewall is switched off and I am using ?Tiny Firewall?
Bittorrent client is Bitcomet 0.56
I have a PC (which I am trying to download from)with a Linksys BEFW11S4 ver4 router that allows an Imac to use the connection in our other room. The Imac is only used for surfing.
The PC uses an Ethernet card (D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Rev C ) that connects to an NTL Broadband modem (NTL 100) I think the speed is 300kbps but I tested it at at www.dslreports.com/test and got 111kpbs so that confused me even more!
I'm bamboozled and really need some help with what the router (if anything) needs to be set up to do, what the settings for the firewall needs to be and what the setting should be for BitComet.
Thanks for anyone's help in advanced. I've read through the forum & various FAQ but i'm just getting more messed up with opening ports and what they should be etc.
Damn! Wish I could think of something smart
