I am going to try to get a list together of movies that Shrink won't crack by itself (ie. Without using Decrypter first). Post it here or PM me with any that you know of and when I get a decent list I will PM or email it to anyone who wants it.

I don't know about other people but I couldn't get shrink to crack Secret Window. But I was just starting out and it may have been a newbie error.

Believe that their are a number of disks using a newer type of copy protection (Sony?) that puts a number of errors on the disk. This defeats most of the ripping program but the disks will play in DVD players as they ignore the bad area. These disks so far have been released in non US areas (Europe). The author of DVD Decrypter has just released a new version that defeats this. See;

I have had a few new DVDs that would stop shrink dead about half way. I had to use DVDdecryter at 1X to do the job. DVDdecrypter would lock in the same place during a normal speed rip.
Ned Kelly was one.

I don't think it is a specific failing in shrink but a change in DVD protection that disrupts reading above normal player speed. DVDshrink could use a manual overide for the speed when necessary.

Have yet to come across a movie that Shrink cannot rip/encode other than for a couple of suspect/possibly damaged originals.
A couple of times I have tried DVD Decrypter on suspect/possibly damaged originals and have had similar results as with Shrink - non encodable.
The few problems encountered have been overcome with the use of different originals.

Only in recent months have I seen an increased number of movies that have the invisible defect.
The new discs that wouldn't record would play fine and had no visible problems. These are brand new.
If I ripped at 1X they would read the bad part as smoothly as the rest.
Anyway, as long as they don't have a visible problem you can rip it. But I haven't been able to slow down shrink to achieve this.

While I did have access to additional new Ned Kelly movies that did the same thing in the same spot, I'm not assuming that all of a particular movie that has the problem is made this way.

Don't know where you are located but as I said above there are disks with a new (bad spots) protection scheme that Shrink does not handle. Try the latest (3.5.1) version of DVD Decryter as there were changes made to specificly handle that type of protection.

As far as a list goes I don't think its possible a I believe that not every disc in every store will be made the same.
As long as there is a way around the problem.
DVDshrink has always had problems on a random few discs. It just seems that there have been more of this stuff going on recently.
Since every disc with this problem can be done with DVDdecrypter then I assume shrink can be updated to handle them eventually.
It's not a big hassle for me since I do the compression with DVDrebuilder/cce and just rip with shrink most of the time. Ripping differently is an easy fix.

I agree donald, and michigan there's just too many variables involved, to(so far)be able to say which ones, DVD Shrink just wont crack.Media pressed and otherwise...rom drives or burners, operating systems etc.
Its nice to have options isnt it.
Ive recently changed to rb/cce,I love it!

I had to use DVD Decrypter on the region 2 Japanese "Kill Bill vol 1" first. I can't remember what problems happened when I just tried backing it up with DVD Shrink first.
Hmmm... which Asian movie should I buy next?

@64026402 ... where is the setting on Decrypter that lets you rip at 1x? Is this an ISO or File Mode setting, or does it matter? I've looked everywhere, including the instructions.
