I love this program because it very easy to use compared with others out there. Anyway, my question is: After ripping, re-authoring,burning my DVDs always show english subtitles when inserted in DVD players. How do ensure that the subtitles dont appear. I tried removing the subcript but when I do this, and if any movies have subtitles the movie simply freezes. Any way around this.

In the reauthor mode. After you have dragged your files over to the compilation window - rightclic on the title and you will see a submenu. Make the choice "Hide subpicture".

Ok now that I know how to hide the subcripture, will this in anyway affect the english subtitle when the appear during a movies when subtitles are required. By hiding the subcripture, can I assume that subtitles will appear when the movies has foreign speaking actors. I noticed that when subcripture is removed totally including English, the movies freezes at the point when English subtitles appear during the course of the movie..I'll never do that again.:-)

You can, but it will be a wrong assumption. ;)
Instead of choosing "Hide Subpicture", choose "Display the following subpicture stream", and select the stream to be played by default.
(usually the smallest in size in the case of forced-subtitles)

i have had problems with re-authored DVDs in the fact that how do you know which is the channel for english people with good hearing? i.e. when i do films like last samurai with mainly english but the occasional bit of japanese, i dont get the subtitles automatically... i have to find them first... not a big thing really but would be nice... - oh and the ability to delete ripped files after a successful burn :)

Hello babelfish. :)
The forced subtitles are usually the smallest in size (less than 1MB).
So you have to make sure "Hide audio/subpicture streams of unsignificant size" is not checked in the DVD Shrink "Edit >> Preferences" menu.
If you have WinDVD (or equivalent) there is a very simple way to find out what stream is the forced one.

I see your point, babelfish.
However, DVD Shrink has absolutely no way of knowing what subpicture stream its user would like to see appear by default. ;)

It knows because the originals have the original IFOs, containing info about what should be played/displayed by default. ;)
When using DVD Shrink "Full-disc" mode, this information is kept.
When using its "Reauthor" mode, new IFOs are written from scratch, so all information pertaining to default streams is lost.

choosing "Hide Subpicture", choose "Display the following subpicture stream", and select the stream to be played by default.
Can some please elaborate in plain english what the means.
Am i correcting saying that this means: no title appears when movie is played but when english subtitle appear during a movies , English is the default language.

i gathered that DD :)
it would be a nice addition to future shrinks too...
also i would like to see a 'keep menu structure and main movie but remove extras' as keeping a static picture still seems to take up 500 megs (i did this for shaun of the dead the other week, 1 disk with just movie & one disk with main movie as static image and all menus/extras etc uncompressed

I do agree, babelfish, there are some nice features that could be added to DVD Shrink. :)
However, v3.2.0.15 was probably its last release, so I doubt this is going to happen. :/
