Hi Mpup54,
Sorry I haven't responded sooner (I realize that this is probably not the proper forum for this post, but hopefully it'll be okay with everyone for just this one post)
Anyway, I bought an ATI Radeon X700 card. It's a bit more expensive but I needed a better video card for my computer anyway. However, you can probably pick one up for about $89 Can. +/- a few dollars from London Drugs or Future Shop. Just make sure it's got a S-Video output and the regular output for your monitor. Then after you install the drivers you go to your Control Panel/Display and choose the proper settings and voila. However, please note that the S-Video connection is only for the video portion. If you want the sound to come out of your TV as well, you need to have another audio cable and connect your computer's audio card to your TV's audio in connection.
That's it for me. Good Luck.
p.s. Yes, the quality is awesome as long as the original file quality is excellent. You don't lose any quality by going this way.

If you are converting video, it really depends on the specs of your PC on how long it will take. With my 2.8 Celeron with 512MB of RAM, it took about 13-14 hours to convert an AVI to a regulation 720x480 mpeg2 stream. The speed is probably because of low RAM if you have a new computer, I would actually recommend 512 or more RAM if you want to even consider transcoding. If you can though, get a full 1GB for faster conversion.

Networking is a very simple task, especially with only two computers.
All you need is a network card in each and a crossover cable. Then connect, setup IPs and you'll be set.

Hi Koola.....my problems are related to this general subject of Divx, avi and conversions. Specifically, there is a Guide labeled "How to Convert DivX to DVDR with DVD2SVCD (D2SRoBa Method)". It's listed under "Guides"...> then DVD-R....> then "How to Convert DivX to DVDR with DVD2SVCD (D2SRoBa Method)".In the step "Setup DVD2SVCD and begin conversion" is where a problem occurs...When i get to "Conversion Preferences" and hit the Conversion tab, i must enter the Divx (avi) that is to be converted.(after i hit the "open folder" icon. After selecting the avi file, an error message appears and i can not proceed any further. The message is "The DVD2AVI file does not exist". i'm totally confused...please advise...is this guide the best way to convert?? are there better or simpler ways?? Thanks for you help..............tom...if you can email me...then i can attach some actually images of the errors and how they happen................cheers.

I have a whole season of a particular TV show sitting on my computer. Some are already in MPG format, but most or XviD. I was hoping to convert them all over to MPG format, keep file size low, quality decent, so that i could burn 2-3 Disc Season set. Whenever i go to do the conversion with TMPGEnc, its make the files take a DVD by themselves. Could somebody help me through this?

I had the same problem. Just go download the latest divx codec from www.divx.com, and it should work fine. It appears that a default install of windows (XP anyway) can play Xvid / DivX files, but i guess TMPGEnc doesnt like the "MS" codecs.

I guess I need to spell it out for you: no posting email addies allowed - it's in the forum rules that you apparently never read.
Let's remove it from our post shall we? :)

if you're using BitTorrent, look for a high file size, as that usually dictates quality.
You may not be using standard DVD file structure, or it might not even be standard DVD stream. What type of file(s) is it?

I have been tryin to get xidv format files to DVD, and i am using the newbie guide on this website.
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm
It doesnt say how to (just say it for peeps that know wta they r doing) the "low resolution" option or "16:9" but i can only use low resolution to get the file down to below 4.7GB to fit on a DVD disc. Only problem wiv this of course is that most of my files have a higher resolution than this option supports. Since TMPGEnc codec is all about quality, any advice on how i can stop the file being so big and b able to use the other options to get a higher resolution? (Some of my files are only 700mb DVDrip Xivd files yet they still seem to make a file that wont fit onto a 4.7GB disc aless i use low resolution.)
( I did try this lower resolution for one of my lower res files but the sound file didnt work so i used VirtualDub to create a .wav file which worked. Also the video file that came out claimed to b only 30mins long on using all media players yet wen i pld the movie it was clearly the whole length...... to add to my worrys wen i went to DVD auth the file it made was longer, with like 3hours of nothing, so i hae id to cut this last bit of blackness out? ANY WAY OF PREVENTING THIS IN THE FUTURE?) My main aim is to get the files on to a 4.7GB disc wiv out loosing quality. Wat am i doing wrong?
Sorry for the long post just that i will not have the internet in a few days time so i want to get the process workin to it full potential before then.
And thxs alot in advance for any form of help.

triggahap,
Give winAVI a try. I've tried every method imaginable over the past year and a half converting, re-converting, going round the twist etc., and this program makes it into a simple job.
Your 700MB films will be processed in more or less real-time and you'll be able to fit 2 or 3 on one DVD.
Sorry if I sound like a winAVI salesperson but it really is that good.
Try the demo version (just over £16.00 to buy) and you'll see what I mean.
Cheers
