Hey there, I'm new to all this, but Ive been reading...
I downloaded a dvd in .AVI format, then converted it to mpeg with TMPGEnc, then used TMPGEnc dvd author to convert to .vob/.bup files etc, then i burnt them using Nero 6. I dont get any error messages, but when I play it on my dvd player, there is no sound, does anyone know what step I have missed?

AVIcodec v1.1.0.4
AVIcodec is a nice little tool for identifying what codecs you need in order to play your multimedia files. Program supports MPEG-1/2, AVI, Ogg, ASF, WMV, etc formats. download / software tab at top of page.
you may just need a codec.
Grateful for any and all helpful information and guidance. Thank you arnold2

I am having an audio problem. I followed the guide to the letter. Checked the codecs, used TMPG, then used IFOEdit and then burnt with Nero burning rom as stated in the guide but can't get audio. Picture is great but no sound. I know the file has audio as it will play on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tested the VOB files for audio? You can play them using BS Player.

I did try playing the VOB using Windows Media Player and no sound there. I don't if that tells you anything.

when I say BS Player, I mean BS Player. BeSweet is an audio tool and it has a GUI if you don't already know. I don't use WMP, so I don't know how it handles VOB. If you want to make sure, search for BS player and try it. If it still doesn't have audio, then the audio isn't compatible with TMPGEnc. Could you tell me the codec of the original and the codec you converted it to?

I downloaded the AVIcodec, but I'm not fully sure of what its meant to tell me? I opened the video_ts folder that contains the dvd files and it says codec name mpeg 2(svcd/dvd) but down the bottom it says:
File:1023 MB(0.0 B),duration:1:21:57,type:MPG, 0 audio stream(s), quality: 74 %
Is this why I'm getting no sound? Im sorry, i appreciate your help...=o)

re divxtodvd new version 4
Thanks Lapinou,
The new version is indeed much better. It can encode xvid files that earlier versions chocked on. The audio lag issue is still there, but it's greatly reduced. Picture quality is excellent, given the speed at which it works.
My biggest issue: many xvid files seem to be encoded at 23.98 frames per second and converting to 30 fps introduces a very noticeable stutter. Is this going to be addressed in future releases?
Thanks.

Click on the guides tab. There are several guides there that explain the ins an outs of using TMPGEnc. If you have specific questions, you can also use the search function to check these forums as there are many threads on TMPEnc.

@BLC
yes, that would be why you have no audio. The audio stream from the original file is not getting encoded with the video for some reason. You may have to Demux the original and then mux it with TMPGEnc.

Hi,
I followed the steps in the guide and got the proper results each time. However, when I put the disc in my DVD-player, it just keeps saying "Loading" (usually it plays about 2 seconds after the DVD Loads). What might be the problem? Thx.
p.s. Because I have only 128mb ram, I didn't choose the 'highest quality' option in TMPGEnc Plus under the MPEG Setting tab. I used the next level down (and this took about 36 hrs!!!) Anyway, would this be the reason for the problem I'm having? Thx.

damn, I hate spammers.
Arya11,
This might be caused by your player not supporting the kind of DVDR you burned your movie with. Is it +R or -R? You may need to check its compatibility and see if it is compatible or not.

free program
DivxToDVD converts your movie files from a wide range of formats (AVI, XVID, MPEG, and DIVX) to compliant DVD structures (VOB and IFO). You can then burn them with CopyToDVD( or what ever) and watch the movie via a DVD Player. Version 0.4.2 corrects a problem of file dependency

Yeah, anyone willing to try out that VSO software should go ahead. Its still in testing phase, so you might encounter some problems. You should probably only use it if you have a faster computer and a lot of time to devote to transcoding incase anything goes wrong.

I some how got settings wrong in TMPGEnc 2.5 for a 716,856 kb AVI file... 13 hr. to convert plus it was to big for a DVD 4. GB- try free VSO's DivxToDVD (what the hay) it took 3hr. I dunno, have not put it to DVD yet. I have to re-read everything because of a memory problem.. LOL (not really funny but true)accident cause it when little. Another reason this is the greatest site in the world... one can go back for the instructions and great tips anytime. Thanks for that...

Thanks for your reply daemonzx6.
I'm using a Toshiba SD2700 DVD Player which is supposed to be able to run the -R discs that I'm using (Memorex DVD-R recordables). Anyway, I've updated my memory to 512MB and I'm now doing everything over again but choosing the "best quality" option. It's taking well over 50hrs, but if it works than it's worth it. Otherwise I might try the program that was mentioned a few posts above this (ver 0.4.5).
Thanks again,
A.
