If you bought media and had problems with it, post information about the media and the merchant you got it from here. Make sure to mention if the media was what it was advertised to be based on the media code (see this thread for instructions on verifying the media code: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/6348), if the media was damaged when you got it, if it was poorly packed or appeared to have been damaged during shipping, and any other relevant details. Don't post questions in this thread.
Try to make it look something like this (not a real complaint):
Media: Ridata G04 Spindle of 50
Merchant: AMadeUpStore.com
Media Code: RITEKG04
Half the media had visible scratches on it. Out of the first 5 discs, 3 produced coasters so I called AMadeUpStore and they replaced the spindle. I got the replacement in 5 days. This is the 3rd spindle of Ridatas I've bought from them, and it was the first time I've gotten bad media.

Media: Ridata G04
Merchant: meritline.com
Media Code: G05
Ordered 50 pack of non branded shiny silver DVD-R 4x and received media code G05. 8 burns..8 coasters. Excees glue and horrible edges. Never had this problem with branded G04's. Almost impossible to contact customer service..was issued an RMA number and will return the discs for refund. Will notify you guys how long it takes to get my credit .
Media:Prodisc White printable DVD-R 4x
Merchant:rima.com
Media Code:S04
50% success rate on about 10 burns. Previous MCC media code had a 95% succes rate. Have contacted rima and they will issue refund and have also offered to provide me with samples of other discs if I desire to make sure they are ok..Lets see how that works out...I have yet to return the discs.

Hi
Just to respond to this post:
-----------
I've got the Bulkpaq Orange DVD-R 8X. This is crap. They only write at 4X, (all times I tried at 6X or 8X it gotlots of coasters), and even at 4X they sometimes fail to write.
Media: Bulkpaq Orange DVD-R 8X (25 Cakebox)
Merchant: www.svp.co.uk
Media Code: TYGO2 (I think fake)
------------
We do not and never have sold any fake TY code DVDR.
We have sold 2 versions of the 8x Bulkpaq DVD-R.
1) Prodisc S04. This was described on the website as 8x in NEC 2500/2510/3500 only. 4x in other 8x drives. (It's a firmware issue).
2) Fujicode . Still in stock and actually a good value disc.
Hope you don't mind me clarifying this.
In our business reputation is everything and I don't agree with selling discs with a fake TY code. It degrades the reputation of genuine TY media.

Anybody else had this problem with their DVD writer!!!
I bought ProDisc DVD-R,from Supermediastore.com
Previous orders were media
ID ProdiscSO3,Manufacturer-Prodisc Tech Inc.They burned perfect at 4x,all 50 per spindle
The last order I placed was media ID MCC 02RG20,Mitsubishi,By Mitsubishi Chemical corp.
These Disc only burn at 2x for me & the last Disc on every spindle of 50 is Blemished.(Inferior Packing)
I'm USEING-NEC DVD_RW ND 1300A-burner,& Nero 6.0
This is not a complaint!Just a heads up!I've already notified Supermediastore.com,of this. They were super nice, they offered to replace the Disc w/originals.But I deemed not to,because of return shipping. If anybody else is haveing problems Please make sure you Notify your supplier & request the original ProDiscSO3.I know this is not a media problem,(except for the last Disc being Blemished). This is Firmware's,in need of being updated.Which for me at this present time is unavalible.
But I honestly feel that suppliers should be notified of these type of changes. So as to pass on to us (the consumer)these changes in media ID prior to ordering. So we can decide which one to purchase, prior to ordering

I've had a problem like rick5446 with DVD-Rs from Supermedia. I bought a stack of 50 Riteks and the first twenty tries got me ten coasters. Here's the info:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:RITEKG04]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc Type : [DVD-R]
Manufacturer ID : [RITEKG04]
Manufacturer Name : [Ritek Co.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
[DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com] --------------------------------------------------------------------------
The price was right:
50 Pack Ritek Ridata G04 DVD01X0058-050F 26.00
4X DVD-R Matte Finish in cake box
Free Ground Shipping
I'm burning with a LITE-ON LDW-411S with the latest firmware upgrade, and I've had no more than the usual problems with LEADDATA01, OPTODISCR004, and BeAll G40001. I'm running WinXP SP2 with an Athlon 1333 and 512MB of memory.
Supermedia claims to be a direct Ritek distributor, and I'd heard so much praise for Ritek that I thought I'd try them, especially at the price, and as I'm in Texas, there was no sales tax as Supermedia is in California. But I remember in reading this formum some time back that our buddies in the UK were having problems with bogus media. Maybe it's not bogus crap! Just crap.
While I'm posting this, the only thing I've changed before trying this media was to install ASPI. I think I'll try disabling ASPI and see if anything changes.
Thanks for "listening."

About 150 backups and counting, haven't thrown one out yet. A little pricy at 1.59CDN and a little slow on the burn side.

I have to update the RITEK problem. It wasn't the blanks, it was ASPI. Don't know why, but when I took the ASPI files off my computer, DVD-Decrypter started working just fine, and I haven't had a coaster since.

Media: TDK 25 pack DVD-R 4x
Retailer: Costco Hawaii
Media Code: TTG01
Burner: Lite-On SOHW-1213s
Purchased 2 spindles, both had the same media code. 2 bad media out of 30 discs tested which wasn't good but not too bad. Media looks physically good, no excess dye or uneven dye spread, rounded polished edges. Discs play generally well, a few skips/pauses on standalone Toshiba and Sony DVD players. Problem occurs when I want to copy the burned discs. I have used DVD-Decryptor and Clone and both programs stop citing read errors at different parts of the disc. Decryptor will skip first read error but will find others further in the track. I have gone through 10 of my burns on TDK's and all have read errors at varying parts. It is the media as the Taiyo's and Mitsui's burn/play/read fine.

Another problem I found with these new Prodisc-
(Mitsubishi MCC 02RG20).When useing DVDShrink if u use the max allowable 4.35 Gig the last 200Meg are corrupt. So it is best to use custom setting & reduce the max by a couple of hundred megs. The Disc looks good, but I wonder if it is a dye or glue problem?I sure hope these Disc hold up down the line a way.
I sure liked the originals I got (ProdiscS03),They're good writing surface,& u could print on them all the way to the hub.You did'nt have to miss anything when printing.
Any body else having these kind of problems with this Disc?

The MCC media from prodisc are 8x media. The 1300s don't support the new media without a firmware upgrade. I have 2 1300s. They work fine with MCC at 4x now. They always burned perfectly in my 2500 NECs.

The firmware page.
My 8x media matched the code for your MCC.
With all the complaints about Ritek multiple brands I figured I would stay with what worked best for me. I have never recieved a bad batch of Prodisc. Unlike cheaper brands they burn all the way to the end with no errors detected when testing or playback.

1.0c should be fine.
I normally use DVDinfo, and of course watch the movie.
You should update the Plextor also since your having problems. I have only used the Mistubitsi discs for a few weeks but I haven't had a single defect yet. I like them.

Thanks 64026402! I installed the 10b that cured my writing problem on the NEC 1300.My Plextor does a fine job.But as I stated if on Either writer,I burn past 4.09 Gig's I end up w/bad sectors on the tail end (no Biggie)just a little xtra work adjusting DVD Shrink. But on all 4 packs of 50 Disc's,the last Disc was unusable.Really scratched up,Bad sectors throughout the Disc's.
HEY!You read anywhere about upgradeing firmware for the Plextor PX708A to burn at 8x? I thought I read it somewhere, but don't remember where.
Hope it's so!!!Maybe not though 4x is Damn good

Reveived from Meritline order of 100 Ritek silver/shiny G04's packed in 4-25 cakebox's last week. Returned same day after opening 1st pack and 1st burned disc was jumpy. I've been a loyal Ritek user for a year now with no problems, and thanks to Afterdawn's forums I knew what to look for and do with this order.
I found 150 Verbatim MCC02RG20 for $90US and will never go back!

Those are the same code as the prodisc from above.
They are $39 per 100 from rima.com.
They burn very well at 8x on my 2500 NECs.

Media: 100 Pack Ritek Ridata 4X DVD-R Media G04 4.7GB (Silver Shiny) DVDR Discs, $0.45 Each
Merchant: meritline.com
Media Code: G04
been happy with meritline for a while up until recently. purchased go4 silver shiny's as always and got calibration errors with the first 5 dvd-r's. used a pioneer dvd-r and a memorex dvd-r and they worked fine. kim he at meritline's customer service told me that they must be a "bad batch" and agreed to mail me 100 back. i will give an update once i get the new "good" batch. what's the deal? are they goin nuts with supplying too many dvd-r's and started to skimp on quality dye?

Its best to get branded Riteks or the printables. The shiny tops haven't been reliable.
