hey neph, where in the world do you live? arizona? you metioned pheonix.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Hey Nephilim, have you ever tried Popo's. Nothing fancy, but I think they're pretty good. I've been eating there off and on since '68. They were just about the only restaurant around here when I moved into this neighborhood. They're on Indian School Rd. just east of 67th Ave. Actually, it's pretty hard to find really bad Mexican food around Phoenix. I lived in Memphis for a while and it's real easy there. My daughter worked at a taco shop in a mall and they put Itallian dressing on their tacos. It was different anyhow.

Taco Bell fits that description to a T. TACO BELL IS NOT MEXICAN!!! It is cheeseburgers and frenchfries with spicy meat. I ate there once and have never eaten there again.
I'm a frequent at El Mezcal with Jacelynn(my girl/lady friend.) We love it! The prices make it easy for young couple like us to go there and enjoy good food on a budget.
With two part-time jobs and my life savings I have no problem getting myself what I want :) I work at BDT welding on farm equipment and I work at Badger Utility as a gopher for my dad and the guys in the garage. Both make over $7.00 an hour and I only go to each about once or twice a week so I have lots of spare time to sit my fat butt in front of the computer :)

Actually, Taco Bell would not qualify as bad Mexican food since it's not really Mexican food in the first place. We get stuff there ocaissionally but never have considered it Mexican food. There are a lot of Mexicans that eat there, however, or at least the one in my neighborhood. Some of what I consider the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten has been in Mexico. I guess what I prefer is the Sonoran style Mexican food generally found in Arizona. I guess in Sonora also.

so no one will argue that Taco Bell is far from authentic, but it's cheap and relatively 'good' from a 'junk food' perspective. All things considered it's probably healthier for you than most.
What I typically order id a meat burito, a bean burito and two tacos. A good combo for Rojelio. For sure.

Hey Dave, how've you been?
I've eaten at Popo's and it's good stuff. There used to be an awesome place downtown called Oaxaca's but I'm not sure if its still there. You're right on the money about getting good Mexican food here. You don't have to go far to find a stellar Mexican joint.
My favorite is still homecooked. I grew up with, dated a couple and have worked with alot of wonderful Mexican folks and I love it when they cook!!! I loooove pasole and my buddy Japo's Aunt Vivian makes the best pasole rojo on the planet. At my last job I'd do favors for the Mexican guys as long as they paid me with homemade pasole :)
Tamales actually save Christmas for me. I generally despise the whole Christmas season but at least there's an avalanche of homemade tamales to be had - twelve bucks for a dozen made with mama's love. I'll buy a dozen and eat until I look like a bloated tick :P

i feel enlightened into your every day life, my dad used to live in tuscon or w/e. here in wisconsin, there was the best restaurant ever called Lums. it sadly when out of buisness, being in a bad location with little advertising. culvers is good fast food. big boy is basically our family's past time restaurnt, ever since they've been around.

I was born in Tucson (two hours south of here) and lived there till I was ten. I've been in Metro Phoenix for the last 24 years. So you're in Wisconsin?

yup, in the madison area. its pretty fun here. nots of stuff to do downtown, and lots of random ass sh*t to do. i lived in michigan till 7, several cities. then moved to mississippi for 3. then i came up here after, and been here ever since

Pasole in its basic form is a spicy broth with pork and hominy in it. It can be quite different, kinda like potato salad, in that everyone has their own personal/family recipe for making it. Some make the broth thick, some thin, some shred the pork, some use chunks, some use just a little hominy some load up on it, some cook it with the pork bone in, some don't.
It's also a very regional dish and has three basic types, rojo (red), blanco (white) and verde (green). From what I understand the verde type can be hotter than all get out. Rojo is the most common and my personal favorite. I like it because the combination of a good spicy broth, pork and hominy just work so well together especially when you have a good hot flour tortilla to dip in it :)

speaking of potato salad, i love sweet potatoes, yum! but i have found that eating ten of them in a row can make you feel a bit to full.

Funny, I'm in Wisconsin Rapids. It composes of four different towships. Kellner, Grand Rapids, Biron, And Wisconsin Rapids itself. I am in Grand Rapids about a mile from Kellner :)

Hehe double post!
I just got done watching The Red Violin in the original languages. It was a much better film without subs. It felt much more epic and was much more artistic. One of my favorite films. Romantic, myterious, funny, tense, musical, and beautiful all in one.*sighs*

You're crazy. Kraft is much better. You have to use a whole stick of butter though. Melt it all in with like two Tbsp of milk then add the cheese. A bit salty but oh so good. It's my guilty pleasure.
Though I guess I've never had Boston Market so you might not be as crazy as I think:)
Boston Cheese Cake is awesome! My mom gets it at the Wally World(Wal-Mart) all the time.
