Hi all,

Just recently bought a Blu-ray writer and some BD-R's for my PC. I have a few hi-def .mkv movies on my computer and was wanting to convert and burn them to the standard Blu-ray movie format (mt2s I think???) so it will blay in any standard Blu-ray player. I know it can go on a DVD-9, but I want to test out my writer.

I had a browse through this thread and downloaded tsMuxeR and converted Sin City.mkv to Blu-ray disk output. This created 2 folders - BDMV and CERTIFICATE. What is the correct method and program to burn these so they will play in a Blu-ray player??

Also the total size after conversion was only 8.29 Gb, so does this mean that there's a way to fit a few movies on a single disc. What software would I use to do this, and is there a program that will let me add a menu to my disc also??

I appreciate any help as I'm new to this.

Cheers

Use whatever burning program of your choice, just as long as it supports BD, and you burn to UDF 2.5. Just burn the BDMV and Certificate folders.

The only way you could apply several movies to one disc is if the A/V streams are of the same codec, you cannot mix one movie that is h264 with another that is VC1... same goes for audio with AC3 and DTS.

Just use tsMuxeR, append each mkv to each other then mux to Blu-Ray. The output would appear to be one large movie, except they will play back to back.

Okay, I loaded up Nero burning ROM for Blu-ray disc (UDF), and under the UDF settings, do I just leave as automatic or select UDF 2.50 myself?

If it's manually do I set the UDF partition type to Physical partition or virtual partition?

Think I'll leave putting multiple movies on a disc until a program comes out that allows menus and stuff to be created.

Cheers for the help, much appreciated.

What about Audio? What's the best tool to extract audio from WMV files that will be usable by tsMuxer to create the final AVCHD files?

Thanks in advance.
Sorry to repeat the question - so I guess there is no way to do this? Ryu or Odin, have either of you done this before? Please help.

The only HD-WMV's I've worked with I used a DVD's audio with it because I wasn't sure about the audio either. So to answer your question; I'm still not sure... about the audio.

Hi everyone...
I am trying to encode a movie file ( .vob ) with MeGUI. But I don't get MeGUI to work. I try creating a D2V file using the D2V creator. However after DGIndex does its job, I get this error:

"Avisynth script error: Script error: there is no function named "DGDecode_Mpeg2Source""

I understand that after DGIndex does its job, MeGUI would automatically load the Avisynth Script, after which I can proceed on further. But I just don't seem to find an answer.
A solution to this problem would be great help. Please.

Thank you all.

I have a question to go out to the blu-ray/megui masters... ive been reading this awesome thread and playing around with the files. the only problem im having is that when i try to compress the movie the matroska comes out having the timeline messed up. part of the ending is in the middle, and the middle is spread throughout the end, etc. the quality is still perfect, though... any idea, guys?

p.s. thanks a million for putting out this thread and doing all of the hard work... pure genius!

Does the main movie have several m2ts files or just one? If it has several you need to append them to each other, remux to m2ts (one large file), then recode.

Use tsMuxeR, open the MPLS file in the Playlist folder instead of the actual m2ts file. By doing this you'll know exactly which files need appending. The only problem is there are several MPLS files that are not the main movie. If you know which m2ts is the first part of the movie open that corresponding MPLS file.

Okay so I converted my .mkv movie file to Blu Ray disc format using tsMuxeR, giving me the BDMV and CERTIFICATES output folders.

I then used Nero burning ROM to burn these to a BD-R using the UDF 2.50 setting with Physical partition.

I played the burned disc using Cyberlink PowerDVD HD and all I got was the audio and green screen for the video???

Does anyone know what I've done wrong and the correct way of converting and burning .mkv to Blu-ray format, to save me from wasting any more expensive discs,

Cheers, much appreciated.

If the resolution of the video is anything but 1920x1080, or 1280x720 you'll get the green screen. All other irregular resolutions are non-BD compliant, ie; 1920x800, or 1280x528. If this is the case you need to either play as m2ts, or recode.

Oh I see. Sorry to be a pest but how do I check the resolution and how do I recode if it's different from 1080/720 so I can make it Blu-ray format??

Cheers again for the help

PS - Is there anyway I can format or re-use the BD-R I just made or is it for the trash? as it only took up 8.something Gb

Cheers

The easiest way to check the resolution of the source file is load it in tsMuxeR, it will tell you in the "Tracks" section. If you need to recode there is instruction throughout this thread.

Unfortunately regarding your new Blu coaster, you cannot reuse it... unless it is BD-RE (re-writable).

To avoid expensive coasters, I always test my encode and burn using a DVD-RW. Just set TsMuxer to cut the first 5 minutes. That should result in about 500MB of content to fit comfortably into a DVD-RW. Burn it as you would BD and test it in ur player. If it works, then you can burn the actual BD.

Hope this helps. Have fun.

Or, what I do is the AVCHD-ME method. Same as above but use a USB stick and the AVCHD-ME program. This is a little faster because there is no burning involved.

The fate of my PS3 rests on this, if this doesn't work I'm going to sell her. I'm sick of high blu-ray prices and shitty games.

I'm wondering if this is possible - With Linux installed (which Linux would work best?) can I rip a Blu-ray movie, bring it onto an external hard drive and watch them off the PS3's main OS? Preferably is there a way to just get the feature and the English audio track for a smaller sized file?

Thanks Odin... the main movie in the stream is one file, and that mt2s plays perfectly itself. no problems at all with the sequence. it must be megui's encoding... i will mess around with the playlist section like you said and see if i can get any positive results. 'rambo' requires that, so it will help me greatly. appreciate the help!

Okay, so I have a collection of HD movies in .mkv format on my computer all either labelled 720p or 1080p. However, when I load them into tsMuxeR they actaul resolutions are not exctly 720p or 1080p, but 1280.528p for example.

Do I need to re-encode the resolution to 720p/1080p using RipBot264 in order to successfuly convert them to a Blu-ray profile (burning on a DVD-9/BD-R) and play them in a BD player??

Is Ripbot264 the best method of doing this or is there an easier way, as this program takes up 100% of my CPU usage, and I have a decent machine??

Cheers for the help, I'm nearly there

If you want them Blu-ray compliant, then yes your only option is to re-encode.

In regards to RipBot264 using 100% of your CPU, I personally would consider that a good thing. That means the encoder is able to use all the resources available.

I have overclocked my Quad Core CPU and I have a decent GPU (scored 11,000 on 3DMark '06 and 5,000 on 3DMark Vantage) when I do my 1080p encodes through MeGUI/x264, my CPU also hits 95% - 100% through the second pass.

Hello,

I use AnyDvD to rip my Blu-ray but when I play back on my Window Media Player I get great picture but a lot of noise with the sound. Also is there a way to rip a blu-ray movie and still keep the menu?

Thank you,
Kyguth
