Hi there,

Following is the error i get while backing up the movies with dvd shrink.
"DVD Shrink encountered an error and Cannot COntinuw
Copy Protection error
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

I have IOMAGIC 4x +/- dvd writer. Also, if i try to decrypt the same movie with dvd shrink on my other drive, i don't get this error. Moreover, if i use Anydvd, i don;t get this error.
I would appreciate your help and time. thanks

Sam

Sam, you should never run DVDShrink directly on the DVD, not if you can help it.
Always write to HD using DVDDecrypter in File mode.
Besides the obvious advantage of the removal of Macrovision/Region/Copy protection, DVDShrink's top-quality setting with deep analysis can be physically very hard on your DVD drive.
It will be forced to perform an inordinate amount of starting/stopping/seeking and reseeking of data at unnatural rates of speed (slower than it would like).
Your optical drive will get quite hot, and worn out.
AnyDVD will stop the errors, but not the wear & tear :)
Ideally you would then run Shrink on the files that are on one HD, and direct the output to another HD on another controller.
Then one HD only reads and the other only writes, much faster/safer/cooler.
Harddisks are inexpensive, and your precious data is priceless.
Backing-up once a week is such a pain...
So, use your DVD less and your harddisk(s) more.
You can put your Windows pagefile on a separate HD from your Windows installation, too (bonus!)
Hope this helps,
Regards

@The_OGS,

Thanks for the detailed response. I never knew that deep analysis have adverse effects on my optical drive. From now on, I will use decrypter to copy data to my Hard Disk and use DVD Shrink later. By the way, I have my windows on a separate Hard Disk :))). I keep files on the separate HDD.

Thanks again for the help.. You were extremely helpful
