There's a guy at my work who is the biggest computer nerd ever, can play backed up ps2 games without a mod chip or a bootdisc..
How is this possible? Ive seen it for myself, and cant work it out.
He claims he justs dvd decrypts it then burns it using the same program.

How can you be sure he doesn't have a mod?
Does he have the cover off?
He could but i highly doubt that have a test machine which can play back-upped and import without modification

I've had a look inside his Ps2 and there is no mod chip.
I borrowed a copy of one of his games, and it worked fine on my ps2, but when I copied it to another disc, it didnt work.
Could it be possible that there is some sort of program that modifies the boot process of the game?
The only thing he will tell me is that he uses DVD Decrypter and thats it.

I have a friend who told me this is possible by getting some kind of descrambler that will change the boot order of the disc and your playstation will recognize it as an original. I know the have the descrambler for dvds but I don't think they work on games but my friend also uses dvd dycrypter and he said that is all he does. I tried to make my own copy of it but it doesn't work but his works on my playstation 2 fine. So I do know it can be done but how.

you people are so annoying. trust us if we knew of a way to backup a game without a mod or disk, we would be some of the first to know about it, do you seriously think we would want to pay 20-50 dollars for a chip, plus another 40-50 for an install if we knew there was a way to do this. there are hundreds of websites devoted to backing up these games and im sure if one knew about it they all would. so get your hands out of your pants and leave us alone

First things first.
vivalakev,i dont want to sound rude but can you somehow proove that it is working?Maybe some pictures or something? Can your friend proove it?Maybe he can give u a guide how to burn just using DVD Decrypter and tell you how he does it without a mod-chip.
Otherwise i think no one has a reason to believe you.
I say it's impossible. But if im PROOVEN wrong then you can have my apple.

Technically speaking, you don't need a mod or swap method to backup PS2 games, just to play them. Perhaps his claim was simply a play on words.
PS2 - v8
Mod - Magic V
Burner - CenDyne (Pioneer) DVR-A05
Media - Anything Cheap
Gamecube w/Broadband Adapter
Phantasy Star Online
Animal Crossing Loader v1.4
Phantasy Star Uploader v1.1
Gamecube ISO Ripping Server v1.0.0.29

Just a thought..if the backed up disk is playing on two different ps2 platforms, one of which isn't modded for sure, then maybe somebody's onto something...maybe.
I'm looking for more info cuz my ps2 games are getting racked pretty bad by my kid and neighbors, so if anyone's got something that would be great.

I know this isn't exactly the forum for ps2, mostly movie stuff, but i'm looking for a bit of help.
But, what exactly is the issue with having to mod a ps2/xbox to play a backed up game? I would imagine it has to do with the order files are burned in as well as the media format and composition (ie dvd-r and the quality of the medium). I'm looking for some links or what not to help explain and chase down the info.
thanks in advance...sry i do know that this is a video place, not a game place, but again thanks.

original ps2 games have bad sectors which the ps2 checks for. You cannot recreate these bad sectors with a burner.

there would be no answer, because the possibilty to copy a selfbootable CD/DVD with DVD Decrypter is not possible.
I think the two guys would to aggrandize oneself that they something knows what nobody else know.
It's a great pity that these kind of post must exist.

lets see some proof that this computer geek isnt lieing.
i guess the only real way to make a self booting copy wouldbe to have a CD /DVD press and make presses of the games he rents or buys.
he could also know some one that works in one of thoes disk pressing plants. that might also explane why he has thoes disks. as they are unmarked during pressing , the lable is added after.
