WOW holy snikies it is true there is a modchip.I am happy now thinking it would never come out for the longest time.I think what we need now is some beta testers that can make a hacked bios for it,and we should all be set :).Today has got to be one of the best days for GameCube peeps.

parallel port?!? Where the F is the USB?

So here is the real question. Anyone going to keep working on PSO+ or burning 8mm DVDs? Looks like this is the coders cable we have been waiting for.

I was thinking the same thing StoneRain, not sure where everything connects or what.It doesn't have alot of specs for it,and the release of it is unknown.I don't want to jynx it,but I hope this aint a tease.

the parallel port is used just for flashing the chip's bios with a new one from the pc..when the chip is connected to the gamecube the chip which has the parallel port might not be used at all. it's just the same as other programmable chips for other consoles. this might mean that this chip is designed for playing burnt games on the gamecube unit itself without having to stream the games from a pc..it's only natural if you think of it

Yeah in a way it could also mean transfer of files from the actual drive though also right. They had mentioned it could replace the use of PSO and BBA right,so it could in some way replace the programs used for streaming images also. The programs out as of now to stream images are only capable of running off of the PSO and BBA technique,so I am thinking another program will come in for the image process for other people that can't get the PSO and BBA.

it's up to the programers..it may be used to boot copies of games straight from the disc drive or use the bba for streaming games..but something tells me that the way it will be used might be to first insert an original game, read through the barcode and then open the lid and place a DVD-R ("The Viper GC has just four wires to solder, and an input/output connector to enable potential control of the lid sensor connected to the GC drive"..i suppose that's the use of the lid sensor)..anw time will tell but i don't suppose they would come up with this chip just to replace using PSO to stream games off the bba (and still use the bba). it wouldn't make sense and nobody would want to pay extra for the chip if they already own PSO (especially now that we can boot games using the 100mbit option)

I was thinking could this make a harddrive compatible. It does have parrallel ports, but could the parrallel port be used you know altered to run off IDE capables or something like that for harddrives.I am wondering if this chip is going to allow sending and recieving of files.I thought the chip doesn't run off BBA or PSO,but maybe I am wrong. It could run off the parrallel port connected to the back of the computer.I wonder how quick it could transfer or recieve with a parrallel port.

First ModChip For GameCube - Viper GC
>> Agreed ... it's not Xbox related news - but we received this big news and it's a pretty important step forward for the GameCube homebrew scene ... so here it is:
[QUOTE]
Viper GC is the world's first amateur coding module for NGC. The onboard flash memory allows users to boot Homebrew applications, loaders or BIOS'.
A high speed parallel port programmer is provided along with the FFC cable to connect to the Viper GC main module. An intuitive PC application has been authored to facilitate easy transfer of BIOS', loaders or Homebrew applications to the flash memory.
Viper Gc is based around the Actel ProAsic Plus FPGA, providing flexibility and security to ensure that the user gets the product they ordered, not a cheap clone.
The viper GC's tailored PC application will enable users to transfer code via their PC Parallel port to the module's flash memory.
We're sure that the recent Homebrew developments (like GC-Linux) on GC will take advantage of the Viper GC's ability to run code directly from flash memory, instead of the current BroadBand Adaptor/Phantasy Star Online + Loader solution, leading to rapid development of the GC Scene.
The Viper GC has just 4 wires to solder and two connectors which could assume control of the lid sensor switch, should the appropriate commands be included in a third party BIOS release.
Viper GC is more than a BIOS replacement, it offers the unique possibility through special hardware commands, to run the original BIOS after the user's loader or Homebrew BIOS has been executed.
The Viper GC programmer includes a logic I.C. to increase transfer speeds and a DIP switch to enable or disable the module. We're sure that the GC scene will now explode into action with a plethora of new achievements and devlopments certain to make even those who do not have a GC currently, rush out and buy one :)

I should have posted this instead of the pics, which is the info and talk about the modchip.
