I think what really suprises me is that it says this:

We're sure that the recent Homebrew developments (like GC-Linux) on GC will take advantage of the Viper GC's ability to run code directly from flash memory, instead of the current BroadBand Adaptor/Phantasy Star Online + Loader solution, leading to rapid development of the GC Scene.

I am thinking the PSO and BBA won't be needed anymore since this chip is going to deal without BBA and PSO technique anymore. It is possible that this chip is the solution, but still early to tell right.

just read this :
Quote:
however i would never dare to call my work a "modchip", as a modchip is there to play pirated games.
So this isn't a modchip, but the viper gc isn't either.
So if you think you can run backups with this chip, then you are wrong.
I don't know why this homebrew stuff is so important on GC, since you can do better on XBOX.

so buying this chip is just wasting money.

that is for pirated games but what about games you leagelly own and backed up so kids wont scratch the original

I think that there is something between the lines there

believe nothing you hear and half of what you see

The reason they say that is the purpose of it being illegal and legal reasons. If they where to say it can load burnt copies of games. It would make it illegal and Nintendo would sue them.It is really just a matter of wait for this modchip, since the bios on the chip is a legal bios.It will have a hacked bios in the future, just give it time and watch. The main thing right now is the drive being able to pick up dvd/cd-r discs whether it is mini cd-r/dvds it is being worked on by some gc-dev team probably which is making a hacked bios that will boot these discs.

k3ke, don't be retarted! Its the same thing that the xbox does. Xbox mod-chips don't come with illegal bios's. They come straight from the distributers with legal linux based bios's called cromwell. You have to then aquire the illegal hacked bios's yourself and flash them yourself before you can start loading the different dashboards (homebrew) software and then make backups of your own legally owned games. If you wish to do something illegal like download games or rent them and copy them, then thats your own business but all the talk from the manufacturer of this GC chip is just himself covering his own ass! I'm sure that you can install the chip and as soon as someone releases a hacked bios (which is just a modified version of the orginal onboard bios) you can flash the chip using the parrallel port and through some means backup your GC games! I'm seriously stoked about this developmen! I've been modding xbox's for years and do about 25 every month. I don't play my xbox though nearly as much as I do my GC! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!

Yeah philipman if you give it time somebody will make a bios to enable that support.I am thinking that is what will happen. If they couldn't do anything with the chip they wouldn't make a big notice of it to everyone.

I have some friends that said they could copy gamecube games when they make there bunner read and write backwards. Also they let me see the inside of there gc and it had a modchip that looked the one on xbox web site. This was the morning before they announced that the chip was coming out.

yeah that's really a lot of money considering that chips made for other consoles are mainly below $60 and that seeing from the pics, the viper gc uses pretty cheap stuff. i don't expect it to be over $60. it will be pointless setting a price that high even if it is still the first and only modchip for gamecube (except from tmbinc's project :D)

Yeah I agree with you it is tmbinc's project which I do give credit to rather than the GC-Viper.It is really just on producing it though.I don't think tmbinc can produce this product in mass quantities for the public.I know this is not related to what you said, but alot of people are kinda saying don't get this since it is tmbinc's project. It is the fact that someone has took the idea and made it happen for everyone to use.I still think credit is given to tmbinc, but like normal it is not possible for tmbinc to produce mass quantities of this since it does cost more than everyone thinks to make and market chips.Well anyways that is how I feel about that issue, but still 200 bones is rough on a person it should be alot cheaper I am hoping.I like the price listed from ssjowowo if it is cheaper than that it would make it better.

200$ per chip is crazy I have no idea where you got that number from but I also mod X-Boxs and chips don't hit over $65. My thinking on this is that you will be able to swap bios and allow barcode skip but we still don't know if the ripper rips games the way they were printed or how we will burn these images. All this will be found out but it is going to take time as said before.

i agree with you L-Burna. when tmbinc finally releases its final project i will try that first because i really admire what he did and still is doing and getting no credit for it. i don't agree with people attacking the viper gc team beacause of what you said and if it's worth it i will buy it as well beacause of its ease of installation and its clean interface. if viper gc is expensive though i'm willing of helping people setting tmbinc's project on their gc

There is a modchip for the gamecube out that is 90 dollars where at indienemo.I have been looking around sites to find more info on the GC-Viper chip an stuff, but never seen the chip you are talking about man.The GC-Viper is a 4 wire mod unit also how many wires is this one.I don't mind spending 90 dollars on a mod if it enables backing up my games and still seems kinda expensive, but should be worth it right.Another thing is the mod on preorder right now or is it actually available for buying.

Yeah my bad I thought you new a different mod or something.Yeah I still think the price 90 is over the price range for this chip, but around 60 is actually fair or a little above that.I think in the price range of 200 that would be insane for real.I am thinking like you said man a mod shouldn't cost more than the actual system.

that is so stupid....

here is why you can simply mod your gamecube with a switch and some wire to play imports without a mod chip
and you can still use it online with phantasy star online without getting banned of of online use

and once you install a mod chip into your game cube you will no longer be able to play system link games
so have fun!!!!!

All I have to say a modchip aint stupid in my opinion.
It will enable more features than the PSO and BBA ever will.It has the possibility to support backups without the need of PSO and BBA.It already has the support of sending .DOL files without the need of these two things and with the support from some GC-Dev team.It already has full region support from what is said from the authors. The system link games would still work by putting the mod into a a stealth mode probably or online play where the chip doesn't even function.I am sure they have thought of this before even making the chip since this has been being developed for about 4 years now.I think what you said can't be proved right or wrong as of right now anyways since the chip isn't out yet.You are really just making up flaws of a chip that doesn't really exist yet.Wait for the chip to come out to even criticize it rather than criticize something that is not out yet.

you can really see why this guy still has newbie status, huh? lol, obviously hasnt tried playing any FMV heavy game on the PSO exploit then...hasnt spent ages having to settle for a less than perfect medium. Im not ashamed to say im actually really looking forward to testing this out... and any amount of attention seeking critisim wont put me off it

I feel the same way to be honest indienemo.I think this is a big improvement not just for all the abilities this mod can actually have, but for the fact that it will get rid of the rare PSO and BBA buying problem also.I have seen alot of people saying they can't purchase the products needed to stream there games. If this is true this mod can bring everyone that can't buy those rare products back to enjoying this system.I feel yah man, loading those big ass FMV games are really bugging the hell out of me.

Yeah this person probably hasn't experienced what a modchip can do.I have experienced a modchip in my Xbox and it is the shiznit no lie.I would have a mod in my PS2,but am skeptical of all the upgrades that keep coming out(modchips keep coming out too quick for the PS2,so it makes it hard for me to decide which one).I am waiting right now for the DMS4 EZLite modchip which is a solderless chip.I know how advanced a modchip can get with game systems,so it is possible to get this chip to do alot of things that are unimaginable. The things said from this person doesn't change my thought on getting this mod, because I have different expectations from this mod than this person does.I also think flaws are worked out of mods all the time.
