DO I NEEEED to delete those?

No, you don't NEEEED to delete them, there's just not much point in them being there.

Quick question what would happen if you ran your psp off ac power with the battery out? How would it tell if it is in service mode or not if it cant load the info from the battery?

Running the PSP with battery out makes it run just like normal, it couldn't be in service mode. All the battery does is "redirect" boot-up; with normal batteries (Or no battery) it boots from internal flash, not the memory card (Which is what a service mode battery tells it to do).

WOW what a thread.AMAZING!!!!!!.I got my mate to hard mod my battery(didn't fancy soldering a tiny wire on),installed the software onto my mem stick as the guide states put me modded battery in and the memory card switched on ran it it (took bout 5 mins) DONE. This was done on my bro's PSP (old fat type) running 3.71 Firmware. This will also work on any slim-line(newer psps) so i have been told.

Again Thanks

@vizor: Glad that it helped someone else solve the problem. The guide seems to work perfectly for most people, but for those rare few that it doesn't, at least there's a workaround for getting the memstick working properly. :)

If you have NP9660 NO UMD enabled then you don't need a UMD in the Bay to play the ISO settings. You can set this in VSH or recovery menu.

I stupidly upgraded my psp to ofw 3.80 & having read this thread bought a tool battery. Using the 4Gb Memory Card supplied with the PSP i have tried to instal CFW but when i instal the tool battery i just get a green light & no screen. pressing buttons do not work nor does re-creating the Magic Memory Stick or trying battery then card instal. before buying a new 1Gb card is there anything else i can try. It was all going so well......

I'm annoyed :[
I've been trying to get this to work all day

I have a Slim PSP with 3.90 official firmware
I got my datel tool battery (slim psp 1200 mAh) today and it doesn't seem to work while following this tutorial.
I also have a 4GB memory stick (PRO duo) with the files on to make it magic memory stick from this tutorial. (Some people say 4GB doesn't work but I have heard that it does work with other people)

I tried on my vista laptop and it skips a part of the tutorial in the command line.

I tried on my XP computer and it skips too but mspformat works and I followed that tutorial on page 7

But when I turn off my PSP, disconnect USB, take out sony batter, replace with tool battery, the green light automatically comes on but the screen stays off... :[
Apparently this is because of poor configuration of the magic memory stick but I did everything this tutorial and the one on page 7 told me to do :[

Much help will be appreciated.

Oh and I recharged the datel tool battery to 100% using a USB charger to my laptop, is that a problem? :s

use a smaller memory stick. a 512mb is more than enough. also, stick to xp, as vista is a 50/50 chance.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

I've just been leaving a disc in the PSP, myself, and have had no problems loading games off of the memory stick. It shouldn't be necessary, but if you can't find a setting that works, that was something that worked for me.

Thanx, i just tried that but no good, even tried all the umd configs but still same prob. i am formating the 4Gb card in my PC rather than psp & will copy games over again. All games came from China where i bought psp so prob could be something to do with that??

Yeah, I definitely cannot get it to work. I put the Datel TOOL battery (Phat battery, Slim PSP) in my PSP and it powers on automatically. However, when I put my MMS into the PSP, after 2 seconds, the PSP shuts off. Any ideas?

I have a fat PSP with 3.90 OFW

would this brick my PSP?
Does the Pandora battery completely prevent bricking?

When it immediately shuts off, that means the bootloader isn't installed properly. Try the guide I wrote on page 7.

As for whether you can do it with any official firmware, yes, you can. The Pandora battery should pretty much prevent bricking as long as you have a bootable memstick like they've described in this guide, as it will allow you to always boot to the Pandora menu and reinstall those two firmwares (the custom and the official). If you don't have a bootable memstick, however, then you need to make one with a working PSP or a card reader to unbrick it, should that happen.

I bought a 1GB PRO duo memory today and it still gives me just a black screen... :[

When I did the steps on page 7 I don't really understand
Because it does not work if you take the memory stick out..
It says something like "The correct syntax of this command is "msinst [DRIVELETTER] msipl.bin"
But I wouldn't have the PSP connected by UBB so there wouldn't be a drive letter for it.. =\
So instead I just put the PSP on USB and do "msinst F msipl.bin" then it writes addresses but doesn't ask me the question at the end..

EDIT
when I do the msinst F msipl.bin at the end it says
"Signature 0xAA55
Check BPB Sector
signature DADE
Bad Signature"

Bad Signature? :S

EDIT AGAIN
Nevermind, got it working. Just tried the mspformat again and it worked, not sure why it didn't the first time.. :S

Pandora battery is working now :D
Thanks very much guys :]
