I have been trying to back up my PS2 games and i have noticed that i cannot play them without a mod chip. I was wondering which chip i should purchase? Which is the easiest to use? I have one of those new PS2s so i would not like to open up my PS2. Which is the cheapest and easiest to use? Can i just connect it without opening my PS2? Please help

you cant KungFu123. Modchips are always have to be soldered in order to work, which means you have to open your system, connect and solder bunch of wires
into little holes( realy hard ), and there you have it. But if you dont want to open or modify your ps2, then i suggest you go with the Swap Magic. It is just like a modchip which plays back ups ( not PS1 backups!)
by swaping.

If you choose to go for a Mod chip I would reccomend a Matrix Infinity. It autoboots anything so after its fitted you just forget about it, theres no swapping discs or button combinations to worry about. The firmware is upgradeable too so no need to worry about future security checks on games.

So the swap magic would work as a mod chip still? Is there anymore you need to buy to make the swap magic work? You can switch mod chips on and off right, when your not playing a backup game? Thx

I have a question, is there any difference between solderless modchips and solder modchips like performance wise or is solderless just easier to hook up?

As far as im aware there is not a Non Solder Modchip that doesnt require some sort of swap, Not sure abou the new DMS4 E.Z.I but If you voiding your Warranty through a Non Solder Chip you might as well go the full length anyway, And no you still have to void the Warranty with the NEOKEY USB Mod, You have to make a HOT Wire between 2 connections inside the PS2.

yup, dms4 e.z.i is non solder, but wrks like a solder chip. but depending on your version, it might not work, i believe it only works on versions 4 and up. and version 4 needs an adapter i think. jus check out dms3 website and look at the info on it.

Btw, With that DMS4 You do require the Laser FIX to prevent it from burning the coils, NEW PSTWO BTW. The Magic 5kX Doesnt Burn the laser. However Magic 5KX is a Solder Chip. You gotta take all these into consideration, I Would suggest the Magic 5kX Due to its High popularity and Success rate if your after the added features of the DMS4 then yes but for a Good Hard Working No Trouble chip (solder) the Magic 5kx is the way 2 go.

SystemX- a laser fix should really be put into any system running backups, swap or not. The laser problem has been proven to be caused by using low reflectivity media and dirty/scratched media. It does effect non-modded systems as well (this is the V12 I am speaking of).

HEY KUNGFU123...,
i no lots about the swap magic discs!
if you have the new slim line ps2 like you were saying, then i suggest that you get the flip top installation rather than mod chips, because chips ar verry expensive! for about $50.00 bucks, you can order the flip top cover, just past this link to your url thing to see what i am talking about!
http://www.swapmagic3.com/fliptop.htm scroll all the way to the bottom!
You als have to buy the swap magic discs v. 3.3!
here is a link to the discs!
http://modchip.ca/store/product.php?productid=16196&cat=269&page=1
if you just buy those two things, and install the flip top cover, then what you do is put the swap magic disc in according to the original backup copy, if the disc was purple, then it is a cd! if the disc was gold/silver, then it is an dvd, put in the swap magic disc according to cd, or dvd.
then you turn on the ps2, when it loads, TAKE IT OUT OF THE CIRCLE PART, making the ps2 think that the lid is still shut!
whn you put in the game, press x and it will load!
your welcome and play on yo!

I have a V7 ps2
so i was wondering if any one can give any usefull info that is not included or that i should need to know
like if its worth it because im kinda on a budigt for prices and that seemed to be the less and i rather have a solder one because i hear non-solder is pretty unreliable.
