good morning to all ye good people out there,

iPod, red in tooth and claw

By now, everyone with access to on- or offline news media knows the new French law would stop Apple from stopping people doing what they want with music they've paid good money for.

Enter iTunes and, "The chaps from Silicon Valley have been making a pile of cash selling their iPods off the back of this while the poor music execs have had to cut down on the white powder deliveries by some margin.

Web surfers may start noticing some unusual behavior from their Internet Explorer (IE) browser after installing Microsoft (Profile, Products, Articles) Corp.'s next round of security patches, expected April 11.

I was just wondering what was your opinion about AD being a "pussy forum", for people with no balls...:~)!

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/320719
And that thread would be a perfect example of why I don't post here near as much as I once did. You have to read through a dozen or more completely unnecessary posts to get to any of the relevant ones. If I were a newb, I sure as hell wouldn't want to wade through all the bullshit posts to try to find any info....it would take days. It's truly gone beyond rediculous in my opinion.
And then there's the massive sigs running through the forum despite the sig rules. And it seems that an offensive post report concerning oversized sigs isn't a serious enough offense to warrant any action from moderators. I've tried a few times and gave up when no changes ever occurred. Most are Addicts who should be leading the forum by example, but instead seem to be a part of the bullshit post problem.
The whole board has gone from an informational site to a giant chat room.

@zippyd - i hear ya. i always crack down on sigs as i stumble across them. the chatting, yes, i cringe oftentimes when i see threads like that. i make the odd post that could be considered chat within a thread, like the one previous to this reply. However i always bite my tongue instead of constantly replying as that's what drags threads into endless chatting. The ppl doing it know who they are and need to do a 3rd person on a thread, any old thread from say 3 weeks ago or whenever and try to imagine what someone arriving here from a google search or wherever would think.. i know what i think when i google search (sorry dRD i do use your search function sometimes!) and arrive at a chat thread.

we are gonna have to start being more strict about the chatting as it has gone to embaressing levels now. i know we'll get lots of complaints such as "it's supposed to be fun helping ppl" and i agree, but it always goes too far. My favourite trick if i had a 'fun' comment to make would be to make it (and make it very short), then the rest of that post would be on topic, and wouldn't encourage further replies of an off-topic nature. For now, i would hope the ppl doing it know they're doing it and reading this thread should shame them into ceasing the endless conversations..

hi

i think we should dump/delete every post and thread except guides etc so its empty and start fresh...

get rid of all crap so no need to mod it, and get a couple new mods and off we go again, this time all posts covered governed by the rules all the way...

the dawn of a new age, after...

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Both zippyd and the-OGS have valid arguments. But it seems to me that newbies don't bother looking in the old threads, they just make their own new one. Some are duplicates from different members on exact subject the same day. I can't say I blame them. I just checked the forum page and for the Shrink forum alone there were 8,304 threads and 63,557 posts. How daunting is that. Who's gonna look thru all that when most of us don't get past the second page in a google search. I came here and lurked for 1 year before making a post. I learned most by just reading the active files in shrink and Nero. The off topic comments lightened the mood and even when politics got involved it was riotous sometimes. I'm guilty just like the rest now and then but all work and no play is pretty f**king boring. I can get that at work. It's hard enough to keep 500,000 cattle herded much less humans. Just my 2 cents.

andmerr, if I remember correctly, you were one of the few who offered help in that thread. I didn't go out and pick any threads to rant about. Someone else displayed the link earlier and when I checked it out I thought it fit as to why some of the "old timers" had gone.....so NO, not picking on ya.

You know, rotary's idea, however crazy, may just be the solution this forum needs; a clean slate.

The idea is good in theory, but, with this being the 313609th thread, who is going to be the person to sift through all of them and seperate the useful ones from the useless ones?

All it would take is choosing a number of threads that cover the most often asked questions, and thn just whiping the rest out.
No need to sift through all of them.

ALL THE NEWBIE'S have to do,
is to use the search feature for the answers they need, but 99.9% of the newbies are to lazy to search,as they want the answers *(right now*) as they want to be spoon fed..

it was always like that from day one........and it will never change..

There's a distinct possibility that Apple's DRM CRAP might go down the chiottes in France, and Steve Jobs is seriously worried.

Until now, his iTunes iPod auto-loader has reigned supreme, passed off as a digital music download service. But a new French law would effectively nullify Apple DRM, meaning people could use Apple downloads on anything they wanted, and innovation and competition would be enabled instead of stifled.

Peeling a potato on YouTube
March 25, 2006 7:00 AM PST

With all the buzz over grassroots filmmaking online, it's easy to forget that there are still some very practical videos on the Web. To wit, Lifehacker.com offers this demonstration of how to peel a potato in one easy step.

hi

and add a spoon full of sugar, helps the medicine go down, in the most deliteful way...

hehe...

--------------------------------

i say dump the lot and start over and grab a couple extra mods to police this town, time to get back on the track and become the power behind the legend once more...

and also throw in an email to all users on any infomation like "no chatting on threads" or "Any flaming gets a 2 week IP address BAN" yeah time for the big boots...

sort of a loose privileges type enforcement or stick a warning tag next to name (name and shame approach)

basically keeping users at bay and letting know its not a free for all and we are all people...

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

I like your way of thinking, Rotary. Unfortunately, I don't believe the I.P suggestion is possible though, as it has been mentioned on more than one occasion.

Ahmen!

What a god awful sight they make. A new member must just look at them and think.."WTF..how on earth can anyone follow any conversations".

Displaying huge great graphics in a thread, that quite frankly have NO bearing on a subject is just as worse. Is it a cry for attention I wonder??. Just sad "showing off" as far as I am concerned.

Pissing off people often does the trick. Clean up these boards, put the emphasis back "On the subject in hand". It may get a few "old timers" back into this site..because by gad it needs it!!

Looking for my old AD
