It is good to see so many veteran AD members online here again.
I have seen so many of my sentiments expressed by other elder statesmen (no gender intended).
Auto-promote needs to be re-evaluated. I really do hate seeing a stupid question from someone who has an equal, or higher, ranking than what I have. Not that I deserve my ranking.
Perhaps the "Report an Offensive Post" link should be "Report a Rules Violation". I can "offend" anyone every time I post. Just because an ignoramus does not understand what I said should not be construed as "offensive".

thats exactly why we come in and evaluate each report, we never assume the comment the reporter makes is 100% correct since there's 2 sides to every story. I've actually took reports that ended up with the reporter getting banned himself. got pissy with someone and when they defended themselves he took it as abuse and reported it. I saw it as justified self defense.

I got tied up at work for 2 days so I missed some of the posts on this thread. Can't understand why problems always show up on weekends at work.
I see we managed to wake Doc Chips up. Good to see you jump in here Doc. Welcome back.
Now a quick comment on Darths post. In over 2 years on here I never tried to act like a mod but use to give friendly advice and suggestions to members bending or breaking the rules. They were always given as suggestions in a nice way. Then several months ago we were asked not to do that anymore. I can't remember how the thread started or why. I always thought that if done properly it usually helped correct a problem before a mod had to get involved but in that thread I stated that if thats what the forum admins wanted thats what I would do. We now are getting just the reverse of that statement back to the way it was before. I totally agree with the return to some of the OLD ways. I think thats what is needed to bring the forum back to the way it was before. Not just in this one area but in many areas.
This thread shows how we use to get along as a family and as good friends, having fun when possible but also keeping the rest of the forum in line as needed. Its a good start to getting the old AfterDawn back.

There was a time when it was easy to identify those who were teacher and student and those who were just students. A rank had meaning and many were promoted based on what they knew. When a newbie was helped by a Senior Member they felt special, that they had somehow obtained special attention and that the info given to them could be trusted. Now anyone who posts a few opinions and links rise to the same status as those who gave genuine directions.

I originally got turned on to AD through DVD X Copy back when it upgraided to 1.41. I joined the afterdawn (DVD X Copy) forum for all the help from Jaybo, Ireland, whisperer, and many others. I have been a lurkerer (infrequent poster) for years. I do check on AD 4 to 5 times a week. There has been a paradigm shift from those in the 25-65 yrs. old range to many more in the 14-17 yrs. old range. I'm not saying that they don't know anything. They know more than I and many others. They also have raging hormones running throuth their veigns and easily offend others, not intentionally mind you. I do feel many have left as a result. I will stay. I will lurk. I will occasionally post. It will get interesting once HD-DVD and bd come to market. I wonder If DVD John is anxious? :)

It's not just age, but I see where you are coming from with that statement. It's like the younger people/newbies rule the place. I know I am only 17 years old myself but hell, I know how to act in a public place.. what is wrong with these people ~?
The people that 'grind my gears' the most are the damn 'know-it-alls'. I login to find a certain (14 year old child) giving out diabolical advice, which is very inaccurate with poor grammar/punctuation. I post below with a decent and correct answer with links & instructions, and then this particular kid starts with the "I've already given him the answer" crap - don't need it..
TTFN Guys.

yeah, that's what puts me off AD to be honest, the ever increasing amount of kiddie forums, it's not so much that they can't be controlled it's that they bring nothing to the site but trouble (in my humble opinion). All the moderating in the world doesn't stop the 2yr olds giving the site a bad name

Ask dela to join this thread, he was the one who mentioned that the admins were seeking the change so i have tried very hard to follow that line of reasoning................

I agree with Lethal B. Too many people don't search and the repitition is mind numbing. However, I keep logging in because there's always something to pick up on and I would help if it's not already posted. I've been on AD for a few years and it has helped find some answers to difficult questions and I am loyal for that reason.

Adding to andmerrs point, I think there is a fine line between doing the righteous thing and 'playing the mod'. If I see someone breaking the rules, I will still ask them nicely to edit out their wrongdoings & point them in the direction of the forum rules -- doesn't mean I have any interest in being a moderator..

Someone called my name.
I'm all for the friendly reminders but I get in a real bad mood and will start banning (no matter the rank) when I see several folks gang up on some poor fellow who just joined and made a honest mistake, I've seen it happen far too often. We've all made them and to keep the atmosphere as friendly as possible ONE SINGLE reminder from ONE SINGLE user is more than enough.
My killer sig came courtesy of bb "El Jefe" mayo.

I don't even do that anymore unless someone is posting baloney. There are just too many of them to be bothered with and even a single reminder can quickly errupt into a tiresome and unwanted debate.

I totally agree Dave, I would never jump in with a second statement about a broken rule if someone else already gave any type of warning about it. Thats how the flame wars get started. One FRIENDLY reminder should be enough. If not accepted by the rule breaker then its time to use the offensive post button and let you guys handle it. Thats kind of been my way of doing this all along, but I have seen the other side of the coin also. I think most of the older members (meaning forum age) should agree on this.

If it were up to me I would get rid of the console forums. That would sort out the men from the boys.

There are a lot of users in the console forum who do post legitimate questions though. Yes, there are a lot of babyish people who post the same questions over and over, but there are a lot of people who take the console forums seriously.

The Console Forum... I say close it as well... (sorry Mikey)
Well, the console forum is annoying for sure... Tough i bet all of us have one of our own, and it is normally chipped or 'tuned'... A lot of us have been in there looking for answers at some point... I know i have! The difference is that we rather spend time reading the previous questions AND solutions than post a question that we already know has been answered... How do we know? Because the info on that forum at this point is so vast, that you really don't need to post anything else! I mean, there's only so much you can do to a PS2! And whatever it is you want to do to it, it has been done... It's only a matter of searching!
C'mon, those kids behave like they're in the jungle... They ask a question, you answer, they say it's wrong, you ask why, then another two kids come along and start to give you stick for telling porkys about it because they heard that a mate heard that you could bla, bladibla... That ain't on! What is this, a nursery? Then they leak into the other forums and ask the same question multiple times! They use Nero to burn a DVD so they post in the media AND the Nero forums!
That's my input on the 'Console Forum' subject...

i must agree with evilh0ly, even tho i am most disapointed at being left out ireland ;), i have only been on this a couple of times this week, due to a heavy workload and being stressed out from some f**kers at work, and i rather not come on here and take it out on people. I hope to be back in the next couple of weeks (mainly just in the Other PC Hardware) once the c*cks are off my back.
