To those experiencing problems...
I was receiving errors about leasing, no VRS... ect.
loading the PS3 folder from the YDL DVD
plus: having a wired conection
plus: when the kboot: option appears, hit tab until you've reached the proper option. (I.E. for PS3 and your screen size or text if you don't have Hi-Def TV)
These are the things that helped me...

hi guys, basically, im going through the process of installin YDL to my old 60gb ps3. So far so good, i formatted the HDD with 10gb allotted to linux. But because the blue ray drive is busted (long story) i was wondering if an external DVD drive plugged into the USB would work for the instal process. Im asking now so i dont have to go out, spend 50 squid on a new USB drive and then find out it doesnt work. I heard from some people the external drive takes the place of the old blue ray drive, but is this true after you formatted the HDD?? If not, how else could i do it?
cheers

ps3guy_09 I would think that it wouldn't work. But having never tried it I can't say for sure. I'll test it out if I get the time and repost the results by Wednesday.

yeh i brought a drive and plugged it in and linux seemed to install all fine. No hitches so far :D so i guess it does work without an internal DVD drive after all

ok heres my problem. everything goes fine untill i get to the package installation when it says something like installation is starting. an error pops up and says "the file gcc-java-4.1.1-1.ydl.ppc.rpm cannot be opened.this is due to a missing file or perhaps s corrupt package. ig you are installing from cd media this usually means the cd media us corrupt, or the cd drive is unable to read the media" so what do i do. can it be that i burned the iso to fast?

Yeah, or that something else has damaged the disk already (i.e. heat, light, scratch), or that your file on your computer is corrupt and so you burned a corrupt disk.

yeh ur gonna wanna burn it to a dvd aswell not a cd. some cd's dont have enough space on them, but a dvd has about 4gb and the file is only 3.3gb. do it at 6x and make sure you keep the disk in one of those plastic wallet things so you cant scratch it. good luck with it :D

So i've downloaded everything and got the Kboot loader up but when the tutorial tells me to hit enter it does nothing and the "Enter Anaconda" stage is what im stuck on. I tried to sort out through all the post but I really couldn't. I'd really appreciate any help.

same thing happened to me. Couldnt get back to my previous version of YDL couldnt advance and couldnt even get back to the XMB OS to reformat. Tbh linux has right pissed me off, first the wireless didnt work, then nothing would play because the codecs were wrong. Loads of effort to get it going and then it bloody broke. ARGGHHH its in the yard now in bits im gonna forget YDL and just instal Ubuntu or sumthing next time. Fed up with it.

For Linux? Wireless? Have you been using it or freshly installed?
