Hi I am using Sony DVD+Rs to burn games. However I cannot get Mercenaries to burn without it freezing at the initial load screen. I am using a fliptop/sm 3.3. I have tried the following 4 methods to burn this game, all resulting in coasters:
1.Alcohol 120% image making wizard, image burning wizard default speed (8X)
2.Alcohol 120% same thing only min speed (2.4x)
3.Nero burning rom min speed
4.DVD Decrypter 1x (but it still worked its way up to 2.4x?)
Just by using the first method I have burned a good 15 games using my Sony DVD+rs, most of which are 2004 releases (if that matters). Up until today I have never made a coaster. My question is: Is there anything else I can try to get this thing to burn right? (Any online patches to download, better burning software, anything) Thanks for your help.

I have also had the same problem burning Mercenaries. I tried DVD Decrypter at 1x speed and at 8x speed with memorex +r dvds. For each speed I tested them out with swap magic 3.3 and 2.0 and fliptop. In both speeds, neither one worked well. Burning it at 1x got stuck at the lucas arts loading screen and 8x got stuck around the title screen. Anything to help this would be appreciated

Hi. I'm having the same problem with freezing at the initial loading screen. I'm using SM and a slide card. I have tried DVD Decrypter, Nero and CloneCD on various speeds and various DVD-R media (Verbatim, Fuji, Memorex). I haven't encountered anything like this before, so I hope there is not some new, extra copy protection on this disc. If anyone has been able to make a working copy, please share. Thanks!

This is strange. That image is exactly where it freezes for me(about 1.5 seconds after the load indicator on the bottom right turns dark blue) Would it be possible that during that load screen the dvd reinstructs the ps2 to check for the unburnable segments? If anyone has success with this getting this game to work with swap magic please post your methods here.

Hey everyone. I just tried it on my Mac using Toast Titanium, but I get the same frozen screen result. Mine is freezing exactly where yours are. I hope somebody smarter than me can figure this out. :)

Why is the hell is the flip top shitty for me? It caused my swap magic dvd to scratch and my games to scratch.
Sorry to go off topic, but it seemed quite a few of you lads had a flip top case.
I put the game in and it starts spinning like mad, and doesn't load.

This game does not work with swap magic. I have heard(on bitconsole.com) you can rebuild the iso using isobuster and another program but I havn't tried yet. I hoping for a patch or a tutorial on the subject of rebuilding the iso.

hmm, please post that tutorial or a link if/when it exists. I've never heard of a ps2 dvd5 game not being able to work with swap magic so i guess its just a matter of time before the "hackers" out there come up with a solution.

Thank you so much. I got it to work using this method. I don't understand how it all works, and I do have one question. My original ISO (that doesn't work) is 3.7 GB, but after running it through these programs, the final ISO (that works) is 1.8 GB. Why is this? I'm just curious, and thanks again for your help.

i was having the freezing at loading problem too I rebuilt it and got it to work, but i'm also wondering about it now being 1.8gb , it seems to work fine...
Fruhmann, isobuster is a program that extracts the files from the ISO image, i used UltraIso. all you need is a program that extracts the files from the image file.
