MY BITCH FOR TODAY:
I've lucked out so far, no snow and slush to walk through, but I've tempted fate enough and went and bought a good pair of boots. I arrived and found hundreds and hundreds of boxes all containing only ONE BOOT. If you want to try the second, you have to remove the first, find a salesman (no easy task either) and give them the first boot so that he/she can go to the storeroom to get the corresponsing boot should you have a desire to actually try them both but trying them both at the same time was against store policy. Should you decide you want to buy the boots, you bring the one shoe to the cash register and wait in line ... the salesperson will bring the second boot to the security desk. When you cash out, the cashier phones the security guard to bring the second boot! The store was "Burlington Coat Factory" and even in crime ridden philly, I must admit I've never seen such a complicated procedure to buy a pair of damned boots! What a world!

at least the heel of the boots are in the right spot compared to a train car load in the former soviet union in the early mid 80's that had the heels mounted on the toe of the boots.

Cops say spa's hidden cameras may have broadcast sex acts over the Internet
December 27, 2006
BY ANNIE SWEENEY Crime Reporter
Patrons of a Northwest Side massage parlor may have had their visits with prostitutes broadcast over the Internet, police said.
Based on statements from a woman who worked there and the sophistication of computer equipment seized from V.I.P. Salon & Day Spa, police believe sex acts might have been transmitted from small, curtained cubicles onto the Web, said Jefferson Park District Cmdr. Ralph Price.
Officers found tiny cameras mounted in the ceiling of several rooms at V.I.P.
"It's gone beyond just prostitution," Price said. "What you think may be private could be all over the place."
Investigators with the Vice Control Section said they had not heard of any similar computer set-up at other places of prostitution in the city.
"Really, this is kind of unchartered territory for us," said Lt. Paul Kusinski.
Price said the V.I.P. Salon at 4422 N. Milwaukee -- where customers have to be buzzed in -- has been a longtime problem for the neighborhood.
Chicago vice officers have raided the business seven or eight times over the past 18 months, and the city has filed complaints against the business, police said. The landlord of the business also filed a lawsuit in January 2006 seeking to evict the business owner, according to Cook County records.
The owner could not be reached for comment.
Charges stemming from the police raids were typically never more than misdemeanors. But now Chicago Police and the Cook County state's attorney's office are seeking more serious charges against the owner and manager for the alleged unlawful videotaping.
Price -- who has done premise checks himself on the business because of complaints -- said he hopes this latest raid will rid the neighborhood of V.I.P. for good.
"Finally, we can shut this guy down," Price said. "This could be the nail in the coffin."
Price's officers got their break on Dec. 20 when someone placed a 911 call to report that a woman at the business was screaming.
When officers arrived, a sergeant pulled back a curtain on two cubicles to find men having sex with women. But officers then spotted something else -- a pinhole camera in the ceiling.
"We followed all the wires," Price said. "They all went to a central computer."
Real money online: female suspect
One of the women arrested told police they charged the men for sex acts, but the real money was made from the share of profits from broadcasting on the Internet, Price said.
The officers obtained a search warrant, which was executed the next morning, Price said. The computer's hard drive was seized and will be analyzed, and police photographed all the cameras and the wires leading to the server.
The raid resulted in four people being charged, including a 20-year-old man for patronizing a place of prostitution, two women -- 39 and 20 -- for solicitation and a 51-year-old man for keeping a place of prostitution.

My bitch is here in Baton Rouge, we got a copmputer guy going to Chase Bank's teller machines, and placing a camera and a card reader good enough to fool people into putting their atm cards in and typing their pin#s, which he captures with the camera. He then drains the accounts as best he can. Anybody else heard any scam like this yet.

Parasite 'turns women into sex kittens'
By Jane Bunce
December 26, 2006 05:27pm
Article from: AAP
A COMMON parasite can increase a women's attractiveness to the opposite sex but also make men more stupid, an Australian researcher says.
About 40 per cent of the world's population is infected with Toxoplasma gondii, including about eight million Australians.
Human infection generally occurs when people eat raw or undercooked meat that has cysts containing the parasite, or accidentally ingest some of the parasite's eggs excreted by an infected cat.
The parasite is known to be dangerous to pregnant women as it can cause disability or abortion of the unborn child, and can also kill people whose immune systems are weakened.
Until recently it was thought to be an insignificant disease in healthy people, Sydney University of Technology infectious disease researcher Nicky Boulter said, but new research has revealed its mind-altering properties.
"Interestingly, the effect of infection is different between men and women,'' Dr Boulter writes in the latest issue of Australasian Science magazine.
"Infected men have lower IQs, achieve a lower level of education and have shorter attention spans. They are also more likely to break rules and take risks, be more independent, more anti-social, suspicious, jealous and morose, and are deemed less attractive to women.
"On the other hand, infected women tend to be more outgoing, friendly, more promiscuous, and are considered more attractive to men compared with non-infected controls.
"In short, it can make men behave like alley cats and women behave like sex kittens''.
Dr Boulter said the recent Czech Republic research was not conclusive, but was backed up by animal studies that found infection also changes the behaviour of mice.
The mice were more likely to take risks that increased their chance of being eaten by cats, which would allow the parasite to continue its life cycle.
Rodents treated with drugs that killed the parasites reversed their behaviour, Dr Boulter said.
Another study showed people who were infected but not showing symptoms were 2.7 times more likely than uninfected people to be involved in a car accident as a driver or pedestrian, while other research has linked the parasite to higher incidences of schizophrenia.
"The increasing body of evidence connecting Toxoplasma infection with changes in personality and mental state, combined with the extremely high incidence of human infection in both developing and developed countries, warrants increased government funding and research, in particular to find safe and effective treatments or vaccines,'' Dr Boulter said.

HD-DVD and Blu-ray AACS DRM Cracked
Posted by samzenpus on Thursday December 28, @12:45AM
from the that-didn't-take-long dept.
Encryption Hardware
EGSonikku writes "According to this article on Endgadget, the AACS DRM used in HD-DVD and Blu-ray has been cracked. The program allows one to decrypt and dump the video for play on a users hard drive, or it can be burned to a blank HD-DVD and played on a stand-alone player. According to the accompanying video, a source release for the program will be made available in January. Time to get that $200 Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive?" Warning: this link contains video.

AACS DRM cracked by BackupHDDVD tool?
Posted Dec 27th 2006 6:25PM by Ryan Block
Filed under: Home Entertainment
Can it be? Is Hollywood's new DRM posterchild AACS (Advanced Access Content System, see more here) actually quite breakable? According to a post on our favoritest of forums (Doom9) by DRM hacker du jour muslix64, his new BackupHDDVD tool decrypts and dismantles AACS on a Windows PC. Just feed the small utility a crypto key (it comes bundled with keys for a few popular HD DVD titles, with the promise of more on the way), and it'll dump the video right off the disc onto your hard drive, supposedly playable in any HD DVD compatible player. If true, this would instantly become the DeCSS of high def optical (where you at, Jon?), as AACS is the copy protection scheme used not only by HD DVD, but by Blu-ray as well. Code and source posted in read link, let us know what you find!
Note: We're working on testing this ourselves, we'll report back with our findings asap.
[Thanks, Max and Adam]
Update: Well, it definitely does something. Click on for some pics and our experiences using the app.
So we have our Xbox 360 HD DVD plugged into our system with the Toshiba HD DVD / UFS 2.5 file system drivers going on, and are able to read the directory contents (drive G:).
We pulled the TRAILER.EVO file down and named it encrypted_TRAILER.EVO. We then ran BackupHDDVD on the disc (Full Metal Jacket).
We quit after we hit TRAILER.EVO, since that's what we wanted to compare against.
We then ran a binary compare against the two. You'd think an unencrypted movie file would have more than just a few hex offsets changed by the unencryption process, but we haven't yet been able to test playing back the files, namely because WinDVD and PowerDVD both totally blow as demos. More shortly.

Wow, thats quite a find Ireland. Soon I would bet that Slysoft will get a hold of the guy who made this, or just his source code and permission, and find a way to decrypt all HD-DVD/Blu-Ray movies (i.e. implement the decryption protocol into AnyDVD).

So is AnyDVD a DVD player or a codec pack or what?
Does it convert or decrypt or what exactly can it do?

@Estuansis, its a program created by Slysoft that decrypts DVDs (which are encrypted with CSS aka Content Scrambling System) on-the-fly and at the driver level so your OS doesn't even know the DVD is encrypted. You can then copy the DVDs you own to your hard drive and create backups so your originals don't get ruined.
@Ripper, be nice. :p He just had a question, its cool that its probably been answered more then once.

AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie as soon as it's inserted into the drive, allowing you then to backup the movie using a DVD backup tool such as CloneDVD and CloneDVD mobile. You can also remove the RPC region code, thereby making the movie region free and viewable on any DVD player and with any DVD player software.
AnyDVD is capable of removing unwanted movie features, including subtitles and prohibition messages such as copyright and FBI warnings. It also allows you to launch an external application whenever you insert or remove a disc, or prevent 'PC-friendly' software from automatically launching when you insert a video DVD.
Decryption is not all that AnyDVD offers. You can control the drive speed of your DVD drive, allowing you to reduce the noise level when watching movies on your PC. You can even adjust the display frequency of your monitor for both NTSC and PAL displays.
But AnyDVD doesn't just stop at DVDs. It also decrypts protected audio CDs to allow you to copy them.

Analysis So have fun fighting the battle against CPRM and alike but please do not be surprised when you fail, after all the war has been lost, long live the new world order: proprietary devices, proprietary interfaces, copy protection, limited functionality, and prepare you credit card accounts for all those monthly rental and service charges you will be paying for every "computer controller consumer electronics device" you use.

I might have to make a purchase :)
And I'm supposing the RIAA has tried to crack down on these guys? The Music Mafia is running out of steam though. Putting the media in a readily usable and rippable format is the same as giving it for free use. Our nation is a nation run with media and if we can't openly share that media it is against our rights of free speech and expression.
