I have Nero and shrink installed and after ripping and encoding it goes to Nero, recognises the blank disk then says it is caching the files but freezes the computer. Any idea's please. I have reversed the order of installation of Shrink and Nero with no luck.
It also freezes when I try to burn the files from the stored file using nero. Obviously a setting is wrong but which one. Computer is a Pentium 900 with 704 ram
which I think should be enough as it will burn using Instant Copy without problems from the ripped file.

A Nero log would be a place to start.
There should be a complete NeroHistory.log file in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero

We don't need that entire log because it contains a record of all your burns, but just the very last part of that log which will have information about your last burn failure. Be sure to remove your serial number when you post that part of the log.

Starting from the last
====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
Name
Location
1A23-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX (serial number)

Windows XP 5.1
IA32
......Up To ......
Registry Keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AllocateCDROMs : 0 (Security Option)

====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======

If it's freezing like you say, there probably will not be a complete log, but whatever you have would be a place to start.

Do you have this issue with a different brand of DVD Media?

The Recorder detects you have DVD-R media from SKC Co, but when it comes to burn, its not detecting the media.

SKC disc's are not considered very good and could very well be some or most of your problem.

Your Burner Firmware CS02
Available Firmware CS09
http://www.liteonit.com.tw/ODD/WebFW/SOHW-1653S/DR16CS09.zip

Having the newest firmware installed on your drive will help with detecting and writing to disc's.
Maybe even crappy SKC disc's.

Your Nero could be updated.
Current available Nero version: 6.6.0.6

The message re the disc has me a little perplexed.
After the freeze I used the same blank disc and burnt the DVD using Instant Copy from the ripped file left on the C drive. I have tried with 3 different types of discs and the same each time.
Have just downloaded the firmware update and see how I go.
The query is in the daughters computer. Hers is the same setup as mine. Have checked every setting and it is a brand new burner with the Nero which come with the burner. Have even installed my copy of Nero and the same problem so ruled that out. The only difference between computers is mine is XP Pro and hers XP Home.
Mine is 1.7 Celeron and hers 800 Celeron.

My 1653s works perfectly in Win98 but not in Win2K! Certain files and - get this - the Nero install CD that came with the drive. It just looks at it forever and takes a long time. Solution - dumpt the contents to a HDD partition anin W98 and load from there. Of course the root problem is still there. It refuses to read a RW CD as well - or one file with a curious file format.

The good news is Nero tells me a lot about the system etc in both OS's but in Win 2K the ASPI system driver is not loaded even though the Nero version is.

The bad news is where do I find the ASPI driver in all of the CAB's of the Win2K disk?

And will it answer? The Nero driver was not loaded when I found the problem and isn't after loading Nero so running from bad old W98 was no dumb thing.

XP? no thanks.

Brain fade. System driver in Win2K not loaded now - presume it never was even though most CD's read (and DVD), the Nero one is - I couldn't tell until I had the Nero info checker to tell me. Win 2K had no reports of missing drivers even with SP4 loading.
