What, no posts since the 2nd? Where's that green guy that started this thread?
Question for those who burn printable DLs:
Has anyone tried these new Ritek hub-printables from Meritline?
If, so, what's the MID?

No idea on the Ritek printables. I only use Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8X hub printables with the occasional Verb hub thrown in.

Ritek has also announced that they have a 16x +R DL available in the US but I haven't found anyone carrying them. They also might have a hub-printable version of them.

Yeah, I burn mainly DLs. I don't do any shrinking or compressing. I've got a large enough display that I can see the difference between shrunk dvds and regular (slight grainyness). It's not as noticeable as between a regular dvd and a hd, but is noticeable.
Love the printable surface of the watershield discs, looks as good as a store-bought dvd or even better (custom images from cdcovers). Burning isn't as good, I'm still getting 90-93% scores but pies & pifs could both be lower.
Haven't been able to try my new NEC-Optiarc 7200S yet as the computer I put it in decided to have a "failure". Suspect the motherboard, particularly the ide channels (southbridge?). Get a non-system disc error on boot but won't boot to an xp install disc either.
Have emailed Ritek requesting information on the new 16x DL plus a request for some samples! :D Lets see if they send me some. ;P

I haven't done many print backups myself lately and I've got a new Epson R595...I did a few test discs just for the hell of it though.
I know a lot of people picked up some of the OfficeDepot branded RicohJPN R03's a few weeks ago. I'm almost through my spindle and have come across about six bad discs so far. There are imperfections in the dye that will give you a coaster. It looks like a dot of dye about the size of a pinhead and the imperfection radiates out from that point to the outer edge of the disc. Has anyone else had issues with theirs or did I just luck out and get a bad spindle?

@Loco
No the ones I burned earlier that were Ricohjpn were all fine-last year. Been using the OD Riteks that they changed to and am about finished. I haven tried or looked closely at the new Ricohjpns I picked up but will look at them.
Edit: I did just check a spindle of 50 and 2 discs I found have black spots and one had what's best described as a very thin-tailed comets(3) radiating out to the edge like a half spoke perpendicular to a tangent line at the curved edge of the disc.
The best deal of the past month is still on at Best Buy. I picked up the Verbatim DVD +R X16 50 spindle for $10.99 in store price. Their circular has the price incorrect, I believe at $13.99. Sale thru this Saturday(tomorrow)

I went thru the second stack of 50 and found only one suspicious disc. Took one out that I found last night, the worst one, and did an on-the-fly copy @X16 with NeroExpress. Burned normally. I was shocked. I skipped thru chapters but didn't watch the total disc. LOL

Just checked my OD discs (DVD+R) and found 5 that were suspicious!! I can't believe it... I'll try to burn one later and see what happens. ;) Still at a 90% good rate it works out to less than $10 per 50 pack.

I went thru my other stack of 50 and only found one. I took the three I found and burned all on the fly @16X and all were successful burns. Could not believe it. Had not Loco pointed the defects out, I would never have noticed, since I don't look at them closely before burning.LOL

Exactly what I thought. ;) I NEVER look at the surface for more than checking for dust particles. It has not occurred to me in the past to consider a "defective" disc before burning even tho I've experienced a few "coasters". I just normally push them off as "MY BAD" and go on. lol.

I don't normally look either, but after one disc wouldn't burn over 4X and then a few burns later I had a coaster I was curious...that's when I found the bad discs. I've been checking them all from then on out of this spindle.

@greensman
Yup that's the comets I had on mine, except the heads were toward the center and not the edge like your pix. They will burn on my PC @16X on the fly in Nero Express, LMAO! I've done 3. And got a 90 quality score on the one I checked. Figure that out.

Garmoon,
That's amazing... you got a score over 0??? lol. I'm not sure that I'd trust those discs and I'm sure you agree. ;) I'll be messing with a couple of the ones that I have and see what I get. :D
