Is there an alternative to dvdshrink software? Or is it the only such freeware available to condense dvd video?

You could try Nero Recode 2, but you will have to pay for that. I'm not aware that there is any other freeware that does what Shrink does.

Actually you can use Recode for free as long as you want.

It comes in the Nero Ultra 6 suite, an entire suite of audio and video programs which you can use for free each and every month for the entire month til you decide to buy(which I highly recommend). It also has CD and DVD cover design, PC backup, Toolkit, and a bunch of other useful stuff. You must reinstall it each month and then you are good to go for that month.

Recode and Shrink are closely related. The only major difference is Shrink rips but can't burn and Recode burns but can't rip. You might want to give it a shot. Download and install all 3 packs to get the full benefits of Ultra 6.
