hello everyone,
Having a minor problem on some discs when using dvd shrink.
DVD Shrink reads disc fine, but after I begin backup, the process will proceed for up to 18 minutes (sometimes less) and will just stop. No error messages, and DVD Shrink appears to be responding under task manager.
I have tried a different physical disc of the movie and it hands at the same exact spot for that particular disc.
I have only had this problem on 2 discs so its not a big problem, but I was just wondering.

Im guessing your problem discs are either, Little Black Book, or Resident Evil2, or The Forgotten.
If this is the case, then your running in to some new dvd encryptions that have just come out.Download the new DVD Decrypter ,that should do the trick for you.

Thanks for the response,
Thats what I was thinking, but being it was giving me no error message, I could not tell if it was a Disc problem or an encryption issue.
Considering it only happened twice in the last 100 backups,,,,,,

I am finding that hard to believe as I was stupid enough to buy DVDFab. Would you please name these several DVD's so that I could validate your findings ?

hi all
i read the previous posts
and wanted to ask
i opened resi evil apocalypse with dvd encrytor
first of all i tried to shrink resi with DVD Shrink but i would not work
as the main film doesnt show up in the final ripped vobs
just the commentary and making of parts of the film
so i used dvd decryptor the find the main movie
and it did
so i then put it back through dvd shrink
and it still dont recognize the main film
but the vobs are there in the list(main film)
but shrink refuses to see them
i was told that the resi film is encrypted in binary
is it still possible to to use/burn the resi film......extract the main film vobs and reburn them
i have tried IFOEdit to create new bup/ifo files but
but Nero...still cant see them
comes back with errors
is there a work around for this
i have all the files in a folder(whole disk)
i wanted to know if any ov you have successfully burned resi
as my head hurts...lol
as i cant figure this one out
any help would be most appreciated
thanks

Matt100,
The one thing that VOBBlanker did for you that you could have done yourself is to create a VIDEO_TS (written exactly like that, case sensitive) folder and put all those VOB files that DVDD gave you into it and DVD Shrink would have seen it right away.
VOBBlanker gave you that folder but you could have typed it in a lot faster :)
Now you know it for the next time -
Cheers,
Pete

so in theory
i could ov made the video_ts folder
put the main film vobs
bup/ifo files into the video_ts
and burned just the main film
but i tried this and Nero wouldnt let me burn it
dont know if its because i used original bup/ifo files
i also tried creating new ones with IFOEdit still
i got no joy
but thanks for your input/help
thanks matt100

Matt,
Hey there good guy, you have got to use English to post here - Not only do I have a hard time trying to figure out your made-up words BUT pple who come here and read these threads and who don't have English as a mother tongue have no chance at all understanding you - Let's give it a shot, OK ?
NOW, as to your question (I think),
When you are using DVDD in the file mode - you should pre-make a folder called VIDEO_TS (Like that, case sensitive) and use that as a destination location. Then, when DVDD is finished you take DVD Shrink and go to that folder to pickup the files. Shrink OR Ecode2 OR any other proggy will be able to see it and allow it to be grabbed. Follow ?

Using DVD Shrink it took me about 2hrs to process Shark Tale, and only 18 minutes to burn it with DVD Decrypter? It has taken me a long time to copy or rip other movies as well. I have DVD Platinum and it usally takes about 45 minutes or more for each operation to copy and then to burn. Any ideas why it takes so long to make a full copy and so little to make the copied disc? Is this normal for DVD Shrink to take so long for such a short a movie as Shark tale. Also did Mulan II and it took about the same time with DVD Shrink.

Hi rgh,
The time difference you noted is because you are using DVD Shrink in it's "quality enhancement" mode. If you want the same quality as XCopy then when you are in the "Backup" window, select the "quality settings" tab and "un-tick" the Deep Analysis and the Quality enhancement boxes. DVD Shrink may take a few minutes longer but it should be under an hour and a lot closer to XCopy.
Why then should you still use DVD Shrink ? Well you don't HAVE to BUT, DVD Shrink can rip most every DVD except the ARccOS and the Settec ALPHA-DVD encryptions. Remember that the last work done on DVD XCopy was in the fall of 03' and the last work done on DVD Shrink was this past August. There will be DVD's that DVD Shrink can handle that XCopy won't.
I hope that answers your question -
Cheers,
Pete

Thanks Pete, I'm now using DVD Shrink and Decrypter most of the time because of the problems reading some of the new dvd's such as the Little Black Book etc. Both of those programs are much more versatile than DVD Platinum. One other item of interest, copies made with DVD Platinum will not play in most portable DVD players but the copies made with Shrink & Decrypter will play. You have answered the question. You say that by unchecking both items that the quality will be the same as DVD Platinum, correct..
Thanks rgh
