I am attempting it for the first time and am having a problem. I have a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A burner on my cpu from Dell and am trying to burn to TDK DVD-R 4.7gb 4x DVDs. i am using DVD Decrypter to read an iso image on my hard drive then i try to write @ 1x speed. i keep getting an error message at the boton saying "device not ready (medium not present)" is my burner capable of doing this, an i using the right DVD. I'm trying to backup "Grand Theft Auto. San Andreas" Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong.

Hmm...

for the post above me. I hear that GTA:SA is dual layered. So you will need a dual layered DVD.

gts:sa is not dual layered.

it is saying device not ready?
Maybe something to do with the burner.

I have backed up gta:sa.
Worked fine no problems.

jday8480,
I hope you didn't buy to many TDK DVD-R 4.7gb 4x DVDs, The burner you own (according to you) is a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A, looking at what you have typed it will only burn DVD+ not the DVD- disks you have, that would explain the unable to read media error message.

Grab some + disks and all should be sweet.

Every ps2 can handle -r's, only ps2 versions 5+ can handle +r's. Occasionally v4's can handle +r's as well.

i always use dvd decrypter

to find out what your burner can do..

open nero
open toolkit
open info tool..let it scan
click on drive
select your burner type(at the drop down menu at top)
you should see all the boxes ticked/unticked
the boxes that are ticked are the media types you can use.

with regards hursty

ps.while you are there, flick through the other options to see if dma is activated, aspi layers are working.
nero info tool is very useful
let me know how you get on.

ok i used the dvd+r's and it worked!! thanks, but after i started playing about every 30 seconds the game would freeze and say ps2 is having trouble reading GTA San Andreas Disk on a black screen, then after a few seconds it will start to play again. then after about 30 seconds or so it does again. i'm using maxwell dvd+r s, is that bad medis. I burned it at 1x speed.
