I burned Die Another Day (James Bond film) and in some spots there is a little camera that pops up for a while when I'm watching the movie. Everything else works great, the picture is phenomenal, sound is awesome as well. The only bad side to it, is that I played this on my high dollar Surround Sound system. I went into my bedroom to play on that dvd player, and It wont read at all. The surround sound one is a five disc pioneer and the one in my room is a Koss. I know it isn't an expensive DVD player, but shouldn't it still play regardless of the quality? Let me know if I messed up. After all, it only is my first time doing it :P

thanks

Usually a better quality media helps out on the stand alone players. Also too fast burn speed can cause some players not to play.

Also formats can screw the stand alone players up.Here's a few tips,I have about 15 stand alone players that my backups play on.Only 1 had a format problem.

1)high quality media
2)sensible 4x max burn speed, you may have to go slower.
3)dual format burner
4)no paper/stick on labels

The no disc error you get on the cheaper stand alone may be fixed by good media and slow burn speed. If not,try using the opposite format if your burner is capable.
Sometimes there is something about the laser on your burner that a certain stand alone will not play no matter what you change. Let's hope it is not that.

Please list your media<example sony -4x> and also your burner brand and model#

Good Luck

At first I was using a verbatim 4x now i switched to a sony. this time im burning attack of the clones and it pops back out saying it has an error, and then lists a bunch of thing im not familiar with. could this be burn speed, the media is already copied on, or a problem with the attack of the clones disc? thanks for the help

my drive is a liteon 8x drive dual format

Yes it should. Many who use DVDxCopy platforms find out that some of the players out there don't like the format they used. I have 3 PC's and one laptop and the laptop would do what you mentioned above.

hmm interesting. attack of the clones is now at 95% encoded, so by the time you reply i may have started burning. another thing i dont know is how can you control the burn speed through Shrink. it does it at 4x and i wouldnt mind going slower. Also, the last few times i tried attack of the clones i left the encoding to stay unchanged instead of letting Shrink make it us, canada only (should that make a difference?) i dont know. thanks for all the help, hopefully ill be going great soon.

Hey audstuen, Your media code on those discs are mcc 01-rg20. I have just ran into a 5 pack of verbatim -4x digital movie quality to try out, with that same code #.Very nice cases. I am very disappointed with these discs. The first one i used was ok, but I tried to do notebook this morning, and when I woke up,I had a burn error. This is the first actual burn error I had in the last 200 burns, including many re-rips of my backups. The very few errors I get are usually black screens of death, lol

That media code would not let me lower the burn speed,4x only. I have got 3 more left and I won't expect much out of them.

Try some maxell's -4x yellow tops, They haven't disappointed me yet.
Also try out some maxell +4x.

ok so the theres a sony -4x i tried too and it did the same thing. all im doing...is popping the disc in, letting it do its analysis, and then backing up, then burning, it wont let me do anything without having DVD43 running, but thats what i did with my james bond movie and its fine. i JUST tried doing antwone fisher and it wont work. should i just wait til i get my yellow topped maxell's or am i screwing something up. Also which region setting should i choose (leave the RCE setting alone, or specify option)? thanks

With some of the newer encryptions, AnyDVD has been working to help pull off the encryptions for DVD Shrink, like The Grudge. It's a free 21 day trial.

I leave all my backups "region-free" in DVD Shrink. These should be viewable anywhere in the world.

Sony -4x, I am not particularly fond of,some of them are made in austria,"the colored ones".The + 1-8x's are a lot better, the ones manufactured in japan are ty's. These give me a range of 2.4x to 16x on them.

If you could pick up some Rw's to practice on to save on the coasters, but stand alones seem to have more trouble playing them.

Lower that backup target, open DVD Shrink, edit, preferences, set it from DVD-5 to custom, enter 4300 mbs,and hit OK. This reduced target can save on coasters.

thanks a lot! I think i may have an rw or two laying around. the -r's i have are colored sonys...theyre 4x and i hve a purple and a yellow one. my verbatims are the flat grey color with a film strip across them. they all work great for burning my home movies off of my handycam, but i guess this is another story. my friend works at the local radioshack and im always in there buying stuff, but neither he or i can remember which brand they have. im going to try maxell and memorex, and that japanese brand TY. one last ? would the rw play in a dvd player? thanks

Ive been using the verbatim digital movie disc for several months and ive never had a problem with them.
I guess there are bad batches of any kind of media, good or bad.
Ive heard some people having trouble with the maxell yellow tops,so i guess you never really know for sure.
It might be more about the burner than the media when it comes to the good stuff.

Those colored sony -4x'x are probably made in austria.I think yellow, purple, and red. I had a 5 pack given to me and I burned them as slow as possible just to keep the possibility of errors.I also didn't put anything important on them.

Beware of memmorex, unless you get the ones produced by "prodisc"the more likely you'll get c-mags.That's why I refer maxell's.The 4 different manufacturers are pretty good quality:hitachi,ty,ricohjpn, and ritek. Those yellow tops are made by all of them except for ricohjpn.Ricohjpn made all of their + media that I have used, appox 100 with only 1 coaster.

Ty's are said to be the best, but beware of fakes. It's said there are a lot of fake ty's floating around.

Those verbatim with the film spool,"digital movie quality", are working great on the + format. The - format gave me 1 coaster out of the first 2 burns.I'm glad i got only 1 - 5-pack.

Since you get your media at radio shack, if you have a staples, best buy,or office depot around, they always have some pretty good media on sale. This week sucked, only memorex at staples and phillips at office depot. I don't pay more than 40 cents apiece for them when they are on sale.I just picked up 350 sony +1-8x at staples a few weeks ago made by ty. That is why I look for made in japan on those wrappers. They let me go 16x if I don't double check those settings.I still only burn at 4x.

Rw's are great to practice with when you run into trouble, however stand alone players seem to have more trouble playing those burns.Since you have 1 or 2 laying around, try them out.

Also on why your burn can be a certain speed only, like those verb -4x: Your burner's firmware controls the speed.Firmware is the program that tells your burner what media is inserted "manufacturers code" and all the ranges it will burn. That's why I can get 16x out of the sony +1-8x and only 4x on those verbatim -4x.

The quality of media is the most critical part of the dvd burning process. Later

rw's can be trickier.Like I stated before, they are great to practice with, view them on your pc,but not reliable to view on certain stand alone players.Stand alone player's lasers have a harder time reading them compared to a standard dvd-r.That's the case in all my stand alone players,tv home burner, and both pc burners.I have more issues on the rw's compared to my + or - r's.
