The biggest issue with the R4 is the number of different cards all needing different firmware's.
The general rules to eliminate most issues are,
1) Format your micro SD with Panasonics SD formatter (free, use Google to find) and use it each time you change the firmware.
2) Download your firmware and extract it straight on to the SD (not onto the PC then transfer)
3) Try the available firmware's - http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/ hosts them all, start with the likely candidates and work your way through
4) Ensure the SD is seated correctly in the R4 before putting into the DS
5) At this stage do not add any roms - get it past the loading screen first.

Hey Pug,finally found you ... I'm having problems and I hope you can help? This is driving me mad !!!
I have a Nintendo DS (Black), R4-SDHC Upgrade Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS) with 8gb Kingston micro SD card.
I have reformatted the scandisk and installed the correct software (R4 English V1.08b). When I switch on the DS it loads up well and into the main menu screen providing three options (1) games (2) Multimedia (3) Config. At this point all the DS buttons work find and I am able to scroll right to left.
However when I go into Games (pressing the B button) I can view the first four games but I am unable to load any of the games up or scroll up or down to try an different games, and I cant go back to the main menu. It's basically stuck.
Any ideas ???
Also when I try going into Multimedia and running the game from there again I can view the moonmemo, moonshl2 and R$imenu folders. I can also view and scroll down to all the loaded games. However when I try to load any of the games is simply get a message on the top screen stating "Application halted !!Please refer [/moonshl2/logbuf.txt]"
and it stays frozen there.

sorry did you say you had a r4 sdhc revolution because thats what ive got, mine did exactly the same so heres the link to the download that worked for me. http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/downloade.asp click on the downloads on the right and select your language.

Thanks Grant26 .
I re-downloaded the English file (V1.08b) even though this is same as I already have on the SD card. As suspected the same error occured i.e. games menu locked and multimedia error.
Additionally, I advance formatted the 8gb micro SD with Panasonics SD formatter, and downloaded the firmware to extract straight on to the SD.I even tried loading just one games ROM in the hope it may be a ROM that is causing the problem - however still the same problem !!
I am really at a loss what to try next. Has anybody had the same problem and managed to find a solution??

I get a similar problem on a friends ds lite which i offered to get going. Arrow keys until the game menu then it locks up. I am using a R4-SDHC Upgrade revolution in a ds lite.
I tried my dsi sdhc which works on my dsi and get the same problem that the cartridge loads but the games menu freezes.
The ds lite is green and starts with UE

Help please, I have two 8gb and 4gb sdhc sandisk cards. Don't know which software will work on them. Tried many softwares since last few weeks from linfoxdomain aswell. I am also formatting cards with panasonic sd.
Nothings working. stuck on loading screen. Very frustated. I feel like iam in a dark tunnel and going in circles. I am on edge of breaking my ds. Please some one help. email me-*email removed*

Hey Pugg i am having the problem with the freezing on the loading screen

I have tried everything and i cant get anything to work.

Hi everybody,
I have the same problem you were talking before. I buy a R4sdhc upgrade and i have dowloaded the latest software updated but when I turn on my ds Lite and i go in to games folder all freeze. If i try from multimedia menù to load a game, the result is an error: "Application halted !!Please refer [/moonshl2/logbuf.txt]". Thanks a lot!

Hi, all!!!
I don´t have the loading screen problem anymore but I have another problem. When I try to load a game, it starts to create a save file then all of a sudden says "savfile not founded, please reset system". I can see the save file created in the "Games" directory but none of the games run.
Does anyone knows what I have to do so this works properly? Is a firmware problem?
I have a black DSI with an R4I-SDHC Upgrade (Revolution for DS) (the one that cames with a red box). I have a 4GB Lexar micro sd card (it cames with the R4I card).

There is now running in Nintendo games some software issues that do not allow you to save the games or even run them. As you have encountered by having the message 'savefile' not found.
I have a software that will allow you to re-jig your downloaded game and play, also create a save file.
As the file is bigger than the normal size any email allows to recieve, it will have to be sent via post (no cost involved apart from a Stamp. If any require this, I will set it up for you (along with guided instructions).
Coachtop, please send me your email so I can send across the versions for your DS.
Bailzy, I will send across to your address the bits, hopefully that you require.

First of all, thank you four your help and for the work you are doing here helping other people.
This problem is strange because the games run nicely on the Nintendo DS of my daughter with an R4. Only got this problem in the DSI of my son. Also the R4I cames with a game in it (Super Mario 64) and in the first day this game worked properly (as I can remember). I´ll accept your offer to send me that "magic" software you have but instead of posting it, maybe it´s better for you to upload it to rapidshare or megaupload and send me the link. I don´t want to give you any trouble by making you go to a post office and loosing your time. Anyway, I´ll leave that to you.

It seems Pugg is very selective in his response :-0)...
For those that are interested I managed to work out my problem of 17/06/09 without the help of this forum. My R4 SDHC Upgrade now works fine with a 8gb Micro SD Card.
Essentially, remove any CD/DVD burning software from your PC (i.e. Nero) as this can corrupt the image file. Then follow the instructions to the letter (e.g. format micro SD, extract files, drag and drop files to SD card etc). Please note: drag and drop one folder at a time. Personally, I do not remove Nero I just used a clean laptop for the transfer - and it worked fine .... If you still have a problem, your kit is knackered and should be returned to the supplier ...

If I was being as complimentary I would tell you that you were a victim of your own stupidity, if you had done your homework you would never have bought an R4 and saved yourself a load of issues.

We all know that Pugg has a great reputation for fixing our R4 problems.
But I'll bet a lot of money that he is a BUSY MAN! Most people have lives away from the computer and I bet that even Pugg plays the odd game now and then!
The one thing that I have seen (over and over) is that he requests users to PM him. The reason for this is simples (meerkat) and one I use on other forums - You don't miss the message as you could in a normal thread.
I PM'd Pugg and got a reply the same day with a zip file that sorted out my problem. I didn't need to post on the forum (although I did post a thank you message).
I don't even need to return to this forum but I do just to see what's going on and all that. I also check out losts of the other AD forum because it's so helpful.
The people here bend over backwards to help then some dillbert who probably wont return has a pop. Well that's the way I see it anyway.
I wonder if Kitty will call me stupid now for admiting that I have an R4 :P

Nope - just the unappreciative.
I stand by my belief that the R4 is now a very poor purchase, however by the nature of the product once working (if you can get it that way) you will think it is great.
Unfortunately the R4 has become a word to mean Flashcart, hence the huge number of poor quality carts using the name. There are loads of other great carts out there but most people looking into it for the first time google "R4"
This thread is to try and help R4 owners, those in need will hopefully be pointed in the right direction, but dont complain about a lack of instant help if you did no homework in the first place.

Look, where did I imply I was unappreciative or disrespectful ??? The work Pugg does I could not replicate through both will or time ... I know many people like him and admire their unselfish determination to share what knowledge they have .....
For those that misinterpreted my message, don't be so quick to judge others based on your own shortcoming and deficient etiquette protocol ... I simply had a genuine problematic issue that plenty of forum members shared but nobody within this forum (including senior members) had an answer to.
These type of forums should highlight new issues and not simply regurgitate the 'loading error' and direct technophobic people to software that a simple google search can locate.
Please do not respond to this posting as nothing more needs to be said ... as for calling me stupid - if you only knew !!!!
I painstakingly worked out the problem and posted the solution so it can perhaps help others.
