I see that a few strange people have been blatantly posting email addresses in this thread, made worse by too many people quoting entire posts hence making the problem worse. I have amended the thread title re email addresses, If you have to trade email addresses, do it in private ie by PM (Private Message) but do NOT use our forums to do so, any further email infractions will result in instant account removal, am not amused at wasting time removing email addresses from most posts across 17 pages.
Forum Rules are in my signature, it would be wise to read them

Bloody hell its gettin a bit cold in here.
Sorry didn't realise i had broken rules re email addy, shan't do it again :(
Didn't realise I was stupid for buying an R4 card as well, and then stupidly askin for help on a help forum when I had reached the limit of my capabilities. I am stupid. Really like being made to feel like a beligirint child.
Always good to be made welcome by those who know so much, the same people who knew how to work a computer the first time they opened it, and solved all there own problems themselves without askin help?
If people are askin for help its up to others to merely assist or ignore us, not shoot them down for being over enthusiastic.
Rant over.
Don't suppose I'll get help now lol!!!!

If it's 'cold' in here it's due to so many people flouting the few rules they should have read when they joined this site. Of course you'll all still get help but moaning at being asked to conform to a site's rules is hardly going to convince people to help you.
Anyway, i'm afraid it's not up for debate, i have RSI from editing so many posts and hopefully people will continue to get help but will now use PM to trade email addresses. Just common sense on most websites really.
p.s. i would offer help re R4's myself, however my kids' R4's (they're genuine but i don't remember what version firmware they're on, i'll check tomorrow and try to remember to post back with that) worked straight out the box so i didn't have to fight with them to get them to work hence have no tips i can pass on myself.

Well hi, I see alot has been going off since I was away. Its great to see the general debate on who is right and who is wrong still exsists.
Please accept any apologies if help on this thread has caused problems.
Outside the bubble, there are million's of humans who die for the information we give but do not have either the access or knowledge on how to get it.
We are mere small fish in a big pond, defending our zone by allowing others to share.
I am a big believer in helping those who ask, for if it was not for those who ask, we would be nobody.
I will endevour to assist where needed and any help that I can provide no matter how big or small even if it helps just one person, will be worth it.
Keep this thread running as it has created alot of intrest from different viewee's.
Be careful when sending email addresses out, as the policy shows do not and creaky is right.
Send private messages so the individual can pick up.
To all those who have sent messages thanking me or expressing their thoughts on how i work, im greatly in your debt.

I have recently bought an R4 with a 2gb micro sd card. then, i bought a 4gb micro sd hc , and every time i turn on my ds lite, it says loading with a black screen. i have tried multiple kernels and sill cant figure it out! send me an email please at ineedglasses.com edited by ddp

Once you have downloaded the Rar file and transferred to your Docs.
The files you need to copy and Paste to the Sd card (to get it running) are:
_DS_MENU (Data File)
_DS_MSHL (NDS File)
_DS_MENU (Config File)
_system_
moonshl
All these files are required to run your DS Games.
Once you have loaded the above onto the Sd Card, create a Folder and name it 'Games'.
This is where you copy all your games into.
Hope this helps those out there who are having trouble.

I've just bought an R4 SDHC card and i'm using a 8GB micro SDHC sorage which the R4 claims to support?
I've downloaded and extracted the .rar kernal and copied the files onto the micro card including a couple of games but when i turn on the DS it stays on the black "loading" screen which is very frustrating!
I have watched load of videos on you tube to try and solve things and can't understand whats goin wrong, ive tried about 6 different kernals - 1.54, 1.22, 1.18, 1.21, 1.24
Anyone any ideas??

I'm having trouble with my sons R4 SDHC with 4GB Transcend card. It works fine with my other sons DS (Model No. USG-001 white, serial uaf11111784), but my other sons DS which is (USG-001 AquaBlue, serial uaf11284939)I can go pass the main menu but when I click on the games folder it will just hang-up. Any help will be much appreciated

okay umm hello. :D i'm of no help but I'm in a need of help!. okies so I was dying to play this game called What's Cooking With Jamie Oliver on my DS and I downloaded it but when I copied it over to my R4 and turned the game on on my ds, it said something about saved data could not be read please reinsert your ds card. but nevermind that cause I decided to be a genius and I thought updating the R4 would've helped so I deleted everything and i updated the micro SD thingy with the R4 v1.18 update. oh mine's a black R4 so I tried the v1.22 as well but it doesn't work. == so now whenever I turn the DS on, it just stays black with loading. and it never ends!. I also tried formatting my card and it didn't help either. I was so stupid. == I didn't back the files up. == gah but is there a possibility that someone could help meee?. Pleaseee?.

Put back on the original software you had before you tried to fix the problem with the 'cant access save file' then search the net for a program called 'DSLAZY' to help fix this first issue.

Original software?. as in the game or...?. the kernel?. I wiped out the whole thing basically and then I tried formatting it and pasting back all the files but it didn't work. I got stuck at the loading.... thingy.
can you take me through the steps please?. btw mine's a black R4. does that mean it's fake?. isn't R4 fake already?. O.o but anyhow, it saves money. :D

This site hosts all the firmwares for all the flash carts, if it was working and not is not, you have the wrong firmware.
1) Format your micro SD with Panasonics SD formatter (free use Google to find) and use it each time you change the firmware.
2) Download your firmware and extract it straight on to the SD (not onto the PC then transfer)
3) Try the available firmware's - start with the likely candidates and work your way through - there are 36 differnet card with R4 in the name!

umm okay. right I got through the loading part but now I don't see the three icons I used to have on the touch screen. What I see is a box with !!! as the title and then there are some words in chinese at the bottom. does that have something to do with the erm erm erm I have no idea... moonshell stuff?.

I'm also having this problem. When I try to open Moonshell2 it says "extension memory was not found".
I have the R4i-SDHC (Red box) with a SanDisk 4GB Micro SD card.
Please post the answer to this riddle if you have it 8).

spockish: try using the R4DS 1.18 firmware from the site Kittymat mentioned, fifth one up from the list of clones. You said you tried the 1.18update to try and fix your origianl problem so I'm guessing you had the 1.18 firmware on the card originally.
