I just recently bought a ps2 from a friend at work,he told me it has a mod chip installed. It won't play a back up copy of a game I made using the instructions in this thread. It does play back up copies of dvd movies. My question: Is there a way I can find out if it really does have a mod chip installed??

also you dont need amod chip you can buy a swap magic software cd and follow the instrunctions given at the site i gave before

Just use imgburn (its free) and works best for PS2 DVD backups.
Its simple to use.

You could open up your PS2 to see if it does indeed have one.

I'm not having much luck with any of the programs suggested thus far- DVD Decrypter isn't available any longer so that's out, IMGBurn, Ashampoo Burning Studio, Nero- none seem to do the job for me. They all write a disc but my PS2 system doesn't like them and just continues to ask for a compatible disc.

I'm starting with an .iso file but must not be doing something quite right, and reading through this thread (a real undertaking!) hasn't provided any answers since I do seem to be doing the general things recommended. I don't have a Modchip, but if what is written is accurate, not everyone finds one necessary.

My DVD burner is a 16x and I'm using Imation 16x DVD+R blank discs- do these make a significant difference?

The programs all seem to be very simple- so I'm not doing anything fancy, which the really simple directions posted make me think is the right way to go, but again, it's not working.

Any ideas?

Imgburn is the successor basically of DVD decrypter.
Use it for burning PS2 ISO

If you don't have a modchip how are you loading the backups.
You either need Swap Magic, or an exploit or memor32 card.

Use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony, Fujifilm DVD-R
Imation are lower end discs.

The programs are pretty straight forward to use.
But basically you need your PS2 modded in some manner to boot backups, either by modchip, Swap Magic or Exploit etc.

You burn PS2 backups the same as I posted above your post.

But to play them on a PS3, look here.

Not that I know of, and I also read that a lot of the PS2 games have crappy video quality on the PS3.

Personally I think its not worth it to bother.

I suppose you can burn it as a data disk. If you are thinking of burning it to a umd, i dont think thats even possible.

1. No

2. You can burn it on a DVD-R but not the way you are implying.

Have you tried to burn docs or jpegs into a DVD before? Its the same thing. You select the data dvd function in the app you are using and add the files from there.

They are winrar files. you usually just need to right click the first one, then click Extract to, Extract here or Extract to Folder.
