You will need to extract those files to get an ISO
Read this guide.

Wow, I didn't know they were to be extracted with rar, cause they didn't have an appropriate extension! Thanks a million!
Well, another problem solved just as soon as I posted it, this forum rocks! Not only ppl who know their stuff and guides for everything are here, ppl respond immediately!

Yes its a great forum with great guides and people will respond if they know the answer. If not sometimes one has to have patience and wait.

Usually winrar works for most files but if it doesn't do it then powerarchiver will do the trick.

This happenned to me with SW Battlefront and Fifa 2005(which didnt work at all).

patching the DNAS code back into the iso you will burn will mean you will not have those problems, as well as be able to play online :)

please note, to be able to patch teh DNAS code into your iso you will need to get it off your original disc using a very nifty utility called Disc ID Utility.

so if you have any games that do have dnas you really need to patch the code into your iso otherwise your gonna be makin coasters :(

HI, Ive been trying to read and understand the thread, most of it I do. But can I be really stupid and ask I want to mod chip my p2s without soldering (im a girl you see). My ps2 is a slim line that flips open, i bought it last year 2007. Do I just need the magic swap disc to play copied ps2 games? If not what else do I need. Thanks Mel

Well if you don't want to install a modchip, then your best bet is to install or have someone install fmcb 1.7 to your memory card, and then use ESR to play backups.

The only thing with ESR.ELF, is you have to patch the ISO backup before you burn it.

ESR Public Beta: http://psx-scene.com/forums/freevast/58441-esr-public-beta.html

That should get you started. If you don't wish to do this, then you could purchase Swap Magic 3.6 and a fliptop or Swap Tools V3 or V4 to block the sensors.

They are pretty cheap right now.

No problem mel. Once you get your Swap Magic, there are many topics in this forum to help you if you need it.
Just do a search or start a new thread asking for help on the topic.

I have a few guides in my profile also.

Hi, just got my delivery of swap magic, all loads up well but wont read my burnt discs. Have tried 3 different types of dvds and different writing speeds ( using DVD decrypter) after loading up swar the discs and it states not ps2 format. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. Also when looking for files to burn I only have an image file or mds as far as I have read I copy the mds file, is this correct. Sorry for being a pain, just heaps frustrated. mel

Hi mel
Ok first off, did you install the tools to block sensors, or buy a fliptop.
To make sure the tools are installed correctly, put in a disk in the PS2 turn it on, then flip the lid open. If the disk is still spinning then the tools should be correctly installed.

The files you have selected to burn are correct. I would update to imgburn, as its the successor of DVD Decrypter.

What speed are you using to burn and what discs have you tried?

All the tools are in right as the disc spins and starts when the lid is open then it gets to a certain point and slows right down and then speeds up then slows down. Im just about nuts. Help.

Hi Mel
You may have gotten a bad Swap Magic DVD. This does happen.
I do know you have to make sure it is pressed right down on the spindle.

I am glad you got a couple games to work. I mostly use Sony DVD-R on my slim.

Does your Swap Magic CD work at all. If the DVD keeps giving you grief you can send it back for a replacement.

Or your other alternative is to try and install fmcb 1.7 to your mc if you get it working or use the Swap Magic CD to install it.

Hi again, The disc has a few scratches on it but I dont know how as I was the only one touching it and hid it from the kids when at work. Yes the CD one works all the time. Are you able to give me a step by step guide how to load the fmcb 1.7 and to load it all up. Looked at one of the other forums and got a bit lost. I was reading about needing another disc and usb or something. I do ok on the computer....most of the time. Thanks again for all your help. Was gonna give up on the discs and get a mod chip done but they are $100 and ive already spent $50 on the disc magic . Mel

Hi Mel
I know the discs become scratched very easily as mine did over a short period.

Ok you only need to have a usb flash drive to install fmcb 1.7 with your Swap Magic.
The tutorial is here with pictures.
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/en_swapmagic.htm

And you will need to read this tutorial also to know what files you want installed and how to configure it.
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/FMCB_install_guide.html

You just need to read it right from start to finish. Reread if necessary as you get all the files and place them.

These threads may help you out after on learning uLaunch elf and how to configure.

If you still have a problem, you can pm me and I will try to help or I can install it for you to a mc for just the cost of postage of your mc to me and back to you.

If you have Nero and there is no one single file over 2GB in size, then in Nero burning Rom choose DVD-ROM ISO/UDF and then copy all the files that you have for the PS2 game into the compilation.

Then burn on DVD-R at 4x-8x speed depending upon the speed of your discs.

I am borrowing my friends ps2 modded with flip top, with swap magic 3.3 DVD. He has ran many of his backed up games on this ps2.

I own Tales of the Abyss, but I noticed that there is an iso online at mininova.org called an "Undub" basically replacing the english voices on the american game with the japanese voices from the japanese version. It has been verified to work from download comments I have read. It is a rar that I made an ISO out of no problem.

I used Alcohol 120% and burned multiple copies of the image at 4x and 8x.

I have also used ImgBurn and burned 2 copies at 4x (Though I received an error during 'Verify" stage on image burn...)

The Alcohol 120 copies start with a blank screen when special booted, and on normal boot I get a memory card screen followed by a red 'please insert a valid ps2 disk' screen.

The ImgBurn copy will not boot. The swap magic screen says it is not a ps2 disk.

The DVD burner/ DVD type I am using are the following as described by ImgBurn:

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10N JL10 (ATA)
Current Profile: DVD-R

Disc Information:
Status: Empty
Erasable: No
Free Sectors: 2,298,496
Free Space: 4,707,319,808 bytes
Free Time: 510:48:46 (MM:SS:FF)
Supported Write Speeds: 4x, 8x

Pre-recorded Information:
Manufacturer ID: RITEKG05

Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
Book Type: DVD-R
Part Version: 5
Disc Size: 120mm
Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified
Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
Track Density: 0.74 um/track
First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608
Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 2,495,103
Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0

Any ideas why I can't get this working? I think I've included all the information, and seeing as how I own the original game, and downloaded an altered version of that game, I don't think this is ilegal.

I own Tales of the Abyss, but I noticed that there is an iso online at mininova.org called an "Undub" basically replacing the english voices on the american game with the japanese voices from the japanese version. It has been verified to work from download comments I have read. It is a rar that I made an ISO out of no problem.

It could very well be that it is not compatible with Swap Magic 3.3
You may have to upgrade to 3.6
The people there probably say its compatible with 3.6
The imgburn copies should have worked.

What you can try is download SM 3.8 DVD, then burn with Imgburn at 4x

Load the SM 3.8 DVD using your SM 3.3 DVD
Hit the EJECT button.
Insert a high TOC PS2DVD and wait for it to refresh
Then swap in your backup using Fliptop or slide tool
Choose your Cheats and Start game, or just START Game
Choose your Region of the PS2
Press X

See if it will work then.

Okay! Since it wasn't my ps2+ swap magic to begin with, I gave that back to my friend because my cousin sold me his MODDED fat ps2.
He does not know what kind of modchip is in it. he think's it's a "magic something" but reguardless, it plays his backed up games just fine as I could see at his place.

I brought it home and tried my backed up games... and nope. I get past the "Playstation 2" screen and then all i get is a blank screen and I hear it struggling to load. What could be the problem?

I used both ImgBurn and DVD Decrypter (very similar) on all 6 of my trials at 4x, with back ups of 2 different games. The only variables left seem to be... Maybe both backup ISO's are bad, maybe my media (Ritek DVD-R's) is bad or maybe my burner is bad (2 year old LG super multiburner).

SO! I figure I will buy a new burner and new DVD-Rs to cover all my bases. Any recomendations?
LG or Pioneer or Samsung for burner?
and Sony, Maxell, TDK, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Ritek DVD-R's?

If your friends backups worked great in the modded PS2, you should aak him what type of discs he used.
Every PS2 is picky and one has to find the right combination of Burner, discs and speed to burn at.

A good guide on media, its the "media Id" which is important.

I have used an LG burner for long time and it works great. It is a GSA-H10N

I use Sony DVD-R mostly
