I have successfully backed up approx. 75 DVDs using DVD Shrink and burning with DVD Decrypter (following Scuba Pete's guides (thank you very much). However, lately DVD Shrink has been shutting down at around 3% into the Backup Encoding function. Sometimes the prog just freezes while other times it gives me an error message saying "handle not recognized"
I have no idea why apparently all of a sudden this Prog is not working.
I think I may have stupidly installed one of those windoze updates that popped up (not thinking that anything bad would come of it)
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in Advance

The first thing to do is to just remove it and then reinstall. That seems to cure a lot of problems, especially if you have been moving things around on your PC.

Thanks - I have tried that a couple of times, but it didn't really fix things.

Which movies are you having trouble with? Could they be the ones that Shrink can't decrypt with help? Try running AnyDVD or DVD43 behind Shrink and see if that helps.

The movies are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and the Bourne Supremacy. I have tried to use DVD Decrypter and write the ISO image file first to my HD, then use DVD Shrink to shrink it, but DVD Shrink crashes.

the error message reads:
DVD Shrink encountered a problem and cannot continue.
Programming error - exception occured.
This happens at 3% of Encoding. I hit ok, and the program closes.

I just uninstalled the XP service pack 2, and DVD Shrink seems to be working now. Hatchett, did you just recently install the service pack 2?
EDIT: That worked because it was a different movie than the B.I. or Eternal....
Thanks for those links C man

if you click on the links that the other guy provided it says that before you encode the movies, make sure you select the unreferenced material and change them to still image, and then you won't have the problem again.

Noob,
No problem. I hate to be so critical sometimes, but the search engine on Afterdawn is great. Sometimes a little push in the right direction can make it so you don't have to make another post about a topic that's already been covered....as you can tell by the amount of links I gave, and those are only a few.
Hatchett, try updating windows first. If the problem still persists, try updating the firmware of your drive. Little things like that can throw your burns off.
