how can i copy my dvd from my hard drive?

my dvd is already on my hard drive but i want to copy it on to cdr how do i do this?

There are 3 proggy's that I use and they are:
1}smartripper, then...
2}DVD2AVI, then...
3}TMPEGenc. You can use TMPEGenc for converting to mpeg and then slitting your file to fit onto 2 or 3 CD-R's.
You can find these proggy's and tuts by doing a Google search

did you go to the site http://entiendo.gotnet.net and look up how to copy a dvd to cdr. you just don't rip it to the hard drive then copy it to disk..it will never fit... next step is to use dvd2avi and then tmpgenc and then use nero to burn it to cd..you are about 14 hours away from having a burnt copy of a movie..

R U there Smarty?
You have ripped the DVD apart with Smartripper & now have some VOB DVD files on your PC right?
Did you make a note of the Chapter times? Down to the milisecond? No...shame; this helps you splice the massive mpeg back into chapters for Nero! Anyhoo...
DVD2AVI v1.76 (NOT 1.77!!!!) will create a "blend" of these VOB files; the result being a file like vts_01.d2v and the .wav file (picture & sound respectively).
Once that has happened (can take around 5 hrs for a 1'20" film with the DVD2AVI being v.quiet & eerily silent as it works!)...you need TMPGEnc...
TMPGEnc takes the .d2v & .wav (you already have the previous afterdawn link printed off I presume???) & "blends" them into one mpeg.
Then you use TMPGEnc again to splice the film into chapters as you desire; of course Nero will then let you create a VCD/SVCD complete with menus, bcg piccies and your own title!

Hi Bob DU,
I'm busy doing a major study @ the mo' so my reply will be brief! The afterdawn site has an article http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/nero_videocd_guide.cfm but it assumes you use Nero as your burning software!
The key thing is to make a note of ALL chapter times after using Smartripper. With this info you can then "splice" the big MPEG back into a VCD which has thumbnail menus. Very useful when you consider some films have certain chapters you want to miss ;-) Need Nero? Drop us a mail!

Thanks mooreo for that info, I've got Nero and all the other proggy's I need to make these flicks, I've actually been making VCD's and AVI's for quite a while, I've just never made a VCD with Chapters. So I guess thats the next notch on my belt. I'll go to that tut and I'll let you know how I'm going. BTW, I've been studying "Multimedia Cert 4" and having a great time. Hiya Bob,
Give us a holler if u get stuck; mine's a Masters degree so I'm in for the long haul THEN a PHD methinks!
A VCD with Chapters is very cool for adult films - so often a VCD will freeze during ffwd so having the chapters in (+ burning the VCD @ < 4 speed + very clean disks) makes viewing much more tolearable. Something I learned from Ice Age this weekend is to ensure you keep the aspect ration on the PC mode; this result in a crisp VCD on my TV. Make sure of course when using TMPEnc that you choose a PAL 16:9 625 lines (or relevant format); TMPEnc defaults to 4:3 ~ THIS being so often why people get grainy VCD's. My VCD of Ice Age is nigh on DVD quality!!!!

good tip on ice age, noticed myself that i had some issues w the conversion, so ill retry perhaps this weekend. what do you mean, however, by 'PC mode'? also, how's nero as a burning tool? seems by all accounts to be the de facto standard...

Speaking musically, Nero is the best. I have used all kinds of different burning progs, but nero seems to be the best. As far as dvd/vcd/svcd goes? Not sure. I just upgraded mine and got into this vcd thing because I can't afford to buy a dvd burner yet (I'm assuming that normal cd-r/cd-rw burners can do vcd/svcd?). I'm sure it'll still be the best!
