Folks
I have an LG Super multi drive (GSA 4160-B)
16 X drive with dual layer ability. I mostly use regular DVD single layer disks, but have one problem.
I use an epson R300 printer because it prints on disks so media is hard to find for printable DVD's what is better, DVD +R's or -R's and what would you suggest to buy for printable media.

Neither is really better than the other, but from what I've seen and read, -R tends to have a higher compatibility rate than +R. My player plays both, so I really don't sweat it too much, but I usually use -R for my PS2.

It's actually the other way around, especially since +R media's booktype can be changed to DVD-ROM for even more compatibility.

I use a Ben-Q 16X 1620 burner and as far as I know I am burning both DVD+ and DVD- in DVD-Rom mode. Most problems are with disk quality, not the type. I have been burnt several times with lousey disks. I only use Ritek now and their printables are cheap and work great. I prefer DVD-R. shop4tech.con and supermediastore.com have good deals with free shipping.

I'm with wolfniggr, and frog smack. Chalk me down for Plus format. Both my benq 1620's are set to book-type the plus discs to dvd-rom, and I haven't found a stand alone,ps2,or a pc drive that will not play them. There are a couple players that won't play my benq's dash format-so I have to be cautious on sending my dad and a couple of friends any of my dash backups.
I have bought some ty-g01's,seem ok.About the same as most of my other quality media-0 errors.I'm about to get the epson r-200 and got 50 verbatim +8x full hub printables ordered from meritline.com.

TECHNICALLY, the +R's are better, but the -R's seem to be more popular.

Also...and I am sure that it is here, but it definately has to be compatible with your player.
I have a DVD+R Recorder on my laptop, but my HTS can't play them, only DVD-R.
So...I had to get an external DVD Multi Writer. :)
BTW, I use Memorex DVD-r in case anyone wants to make fun of me. LOL!

if you don't booktype your +R's to DVD-ROM, then -R is more compatible than +R, but not by very much. Something like 95% compared to 87% or something like that.
At least that's what I read. In many different articles.

Venon, "my HTM can play those and all cd+r/-r"
Where can I get some of those cd+r's? lol
I have a buddy that went to wal-mart and had one of their associates try to find cd+r.
Yo Jd, With all my benq backups, the plus format book-typed to dvd-rom are out performing my dash format backups. The compatability on stand alone players on this burner is why I put another benq in my backup pc. Now I don't have to worry about using which burner/which format/which speed/and which media to send to my family members.Compatability issue solved. I'm still trying to find a player that won't play my Plus, but will play my dash backups.

I got a good chuckle out of that, I wander if that walmart employee is still looking for those cd+r's.
I have a DVD+R Recorder on my laptop
That's why I got the second benq. That original khypermedia 8x backups wouldn't play on my apex bedroom stand alone.I got another I/O magic 16x which is what my first benq was made for,and it turned out to be an EMPA. That empa preferred the dash format.I had a heck of a time getting those +8x yuden000-to2's to play in half my drives-even after I book-typed them to dvd-rom.
Different burners/different format preferences.Just like those stand alone players.

Well Mr. Dandy, being a Senior member, I find it interesting that you never seen or read this article:
Why DVD+R(W) is superior to DVD-R(W)
http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/113
Quote: From article:
Conclusion
During my study of rewritable DVD formats it seemed very clear to me that DVD-R(W) standard was not as well designed as DVD+R(W) (or even DVD-RAM).
Does your lack of knowledge about the superiority of DVD+R(W) carry over to your bias against Memorex DVD+R(W) media. I only see you spout one liners against them and you provide no links to reputable review sites showing problems with Memorex media.

Pound for pound, when it comes to video editing & data backup, DVD-RAM is the best choice. Too bad no-one supports it :(. My vote for DVD-Video has to go to the DVD-R camp. Just had better compatibilty in my experiances but of course YMMV. I'd buy a couple of each standard and burn the same movie on all of them. Have you & your relatives (or whomever you share with) try each one out and see what fairs better then go from there. Rule of thumb would be Riteks, Ri-Data, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim. Sonic DVD-R & Matrix DVD-R's are utter crap, so don't bother with that media regardless of who cheap it is. You DO get what you pay for (Though if you browse the net, you can find some steals for 'premium media' (Taiyo Yudens or Riteks) that are rebadged as something else). Come to think of it, Best Buy is having a sale on Verbatim 8x +/- R's; a 50pk for $20 which is not a bad price for media that is reputable in general IMO.

@SalemMeow
Hi! Well, I stumbled upon this thread, because of the posting whore that I am! LMAO!!
But, Salem, I have some bad news for you. There ARE several threads out there that have good documentation regarding Memorex media. Now, I am not saying that you are wrong, but Jim, isn't biased towards the Memorex media. He just doesn't use it. But he doesn't go around and bash it. Well, unless he is talking to me! :P
Anywho, I have been engaged in several different threads in the last couple of weeks, and PROOF has been established. HOWEVER, if you get them from the right place, you won't be disappointed, as seen here in this thread:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/177423
The only reason I am saying this, is because Jim, and several others DO know what they are talking about. He isn't really being biased, he just doesn't like them. But hey, to each is own! Right?
So, all the documentation is there, and about the majority of individuals here prefer TY media. But, I love my Memorex media, and until that I start getting massive coasters, I will continue to use them, but as you are around here, you will definately see the negative opinions about Memorex media.
Hope this helps!
BTW...Welcome to AfterDawn and thanks for the great article, it was very informative!
;P

F*****G aye. Each to his. Whatever floats ya boat I say. Memorex is an ok brand. so are most others provide you use em right. And before you go around slagging off senior members saying the have a lack of knowledge. Maybe you should have read a few more of his posts. Perhaps that would have opened your eyes a bit. Didn't get to be a senior by posting absolute crap.

Im in no mood for a flame war, and I dont feel I have to defend my knowledge to you, or anyone else.I recently read an article similar to that one,and I admitted that I was wrong on another thread(I guess youve never been wrong before?)I cant read every article thats been written, about the differences in media.Im on here for fun, and to help people.I dont have the time to read everything thats been said, pro, or con, on media.
I just go by the general consensus,of this forum, and others.I did say, I would like to see proof,I did not say, that proof doesnt exist.
That being said, venom and I are friends, and all the, so called, one liners, are just our way of having fun on here.He knows im just kidding and I really dont care what you think.
Thanks venom, and bubba for watching my back:) I appreciate it.
If a newbie gives you a rough time in the future,pm me Ill help you out if im on.thanks again.
Jim
