I have been backing up dvds for a little while with no problem. Now I am getting errors all over the place. I have started with decrypter and then tried shrink, shrink then decrypter, and keep getting different messages. At first it was one about memory so I unchecked the view window...that helped that. Now I get errors that close down shrink. I have read about the IPO mode but can't find out if it is on. I go through to the device manager and then to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers but there is no advanced tab. Please help before I jump out of the window.
If you look by the ATAPI there should be a + where Primary and Secondary IDE adapters will show up. This is where the Advance Settings are found. Not on the actual ATAPI itself. Also, are you using the default burn paramaters of shrink? If so change it to around 4300 MB. Do this by going under preferences, and choosing custom and setting the burn area from 4464 to the 4300. Also others have been having similar problems including myself with a myriad of fix actions. Everything from removing the IDE adapters and letting the computer reinstall them to removing the drive itself. Also, if your computer is setup to run as the master or slave to a cd burner, it has been found that if you unplug the cd drive it also will fix the problem. Perhaps the 80 count wire, instead of the 40 count wires can be the problem. Please don't take this as that I know alot about this, this is what i have found in the last 2 days while searching for the answer to the same problem. I set my burning parameter to the 4300 and reinstalled Nero, shrink, decrypter, even had to do my entire harddrive due to a virus. Everything is now working properly. Not sure which actually fixed the problem, since the virus was an unexpected addition to the equation forcing me to reinstall the O/S before testing each individually.
Thanks for all of the input. What I ended up doing was to uninstall everything again and then when I put the dvd in shrink it worked just fine through Nero. I wasnt using Nero before but I was having problems with shrink and decrypter so I didnt think that was the problem. I also didnt have to use decrypter because shrink asked for the region and took off the protection...or so I hope. Ive been reading and everyone says that you need decrypter for that because shrink doesnt do it. I guess I will find out when I watch the whole movie. So far I dont seem to have any problems. Nero is backing up much faster anyway.
When I go into the + thing I dont have a primary or secondary drive. Im not going to worry about that right now sense it is working...Thanks again for your help though.
That's no problem. Yeah you don't necessarily have to use decrypter except on certain RCE protected movies. For example The Forgotten or The Grudge. Hope everything continues to work for you.
