I have a Nintendo WiFi USB Connector. I can play original games on my NDSL with online wifi but when I try to play the same rom image of a game I own a physical copy of, it shows a good connection test but, won't connect when I try to play online.
Here's my settings and what I did:
Uninstalled NWFC Software/Drivers
Installed ASUS drivers following Waffle's guide with version 2371
Setup the Asus Control Center, selecting the option to 'Only use our WLAN utilities and disable Windows wireless function'
Selected ICS to share my lan with the Wireless Connection
Setup the Asus Wlan Card:
SSID: courage (not hidden)
Encryption: Shared, WEP, w/ Hexadecimal key (64 bits/10 digits)
Channel 1
SoftAp: SoftAp Mode, ICS Enabled
54G Mode: 802.11b Only
Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.15.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.15.1
Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 3:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.18.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
My DS:
manual setup
wep key: entered 10 digit wep key
ip address: 192.168.18.2
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.18.1
primary dns: 192.168.18.1
test connection: successful: signal bar full green
Test connecting to Physical Commercial DS Game:
Successful: signal bar shows full green
with M3 Simply DS
and NDS Rom File of same game used above:
test connection: successful (through in-game options) signal bar full green
In game wifi play: Signal bar now shows red, can't connect
I have tried several other game/rom combinations and the online wifi play won't work on the M3. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Well, any nds rom, I can get the connection tests working fine, and for instance I have yugioh 2007 the actual game, and that plays fine online, but when I try to play the rom of it on the m3, it wont connect, it shows a red signal bar.
Every other rom does the same thing, connection tests still work, but when i go to online play options it gets a red signal bar and won't connect.
And again, I've tried the actual phsyical game side by side the rom, the actual game connects no problem, the rom doesn't.

Well i've never had this issue with any of my games getting online so can't think why you are having problems.
I can only guess at possible fixes:
- Make sure the ROMs are not trimmed
- Turn soft-reset off
- Use a different MicroSD
- Leave some extra space on the MicroSD (about 5MB)

I've heard rom trimming might cause problems but, how can I tell if the rom has been trimmed? Is there a checksum or somewhere, or do I need to specifically look for trimmed roms?
I don't think I can straight dump a game from the dsl either with just a m3 ds simply.

Well if you havn't trimmed the game yourself it is very unlikly that it has been.
Games on http://ds.rom-news.org/ aer not trimmed so you can download from that site to test.

No, the roms are the original clean roms I checked. And someone called DS69 mentioned the same problem on page 4, and I've seen several other mentions of this problem but, no answers.
Are you using a Nintendo WFC USB adaptor or a wireless router or what MrHanky?

I am currently using a BT Voyager 2100 Wireless ADSL Router, I also have a Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Cable Router at my house, both of which work perfectly.
One of my friends has the official Nintendo USB access point and can play his ROMs through it, and another has an unofficial one that does the same thing, his games also work fine.

I'm using a different BT ADSL wireless router to MrHanky and have no problems either. I've also jumped onto an unsecured Netgear next door with no problem !

ok i have an M3 but i only want it for, without going against forums rules, backups of my games.
i hate moonshel thingy cos i dont want music or movies i just want to use backups (games) now is there a way that i can edit the M3 so that when i use it it skips the 3 icon main menu and just goes straight to the .NDS that looks roughly like this:

i dont care about videos and music or pictures i just want this screen only...is it posible to make it happen! please!
if not is there a way that you can make it so it only shows the first icon on the main menu not Game, Media, Slot 3 can you just have it showing Game then to Game list.
you see i want it as neat as possible maybe a skin that just has one icon that leads me to that menu
thank you very much

Well, you could get the firmware's source code and rewrite it, otherwise you just have to push one button.
Rewrite a buncha source code, or push one button...yep.

If you don't fancy tackling the source code (I myself got lost at line 994...) then you could create a skin with only one icon ! the other two would still be there but wouldn't be visible. You can also re-assign the middle button (media) to any file you wish by renaming the app or backup you wish to launch with the moonshell filename.
You still have to exert the energy on that one button press and wait the few milliseconds it takes to load the menu.
I want a DS with slot 3, where do you get them ? mine only has 2 !(I jest)

I assume this fixes the Zelda problem and adds DLDI autopatching like the R4 update.
Unfortunetly I have completely busted my Simply so can't test it.

I have a M3 DS Simply and I do have some roms working with wifi play on them, yugioh championship 2007 (which I actually own as well), marvel trading card game, both work on wifi, but most other roms don't work with wifi play? Any idea on what the disparity might be?

For instance on Pokemon Diamond, when I got to connection settings in-game the connection tests works, but when I go to Battle, I get a red signal bar, also I haven't inputted any cheats into the game at any time, in case that has a bearing on it.

Well, I believe I figured it out. Nintendo WFC and Multiplayer aren't the same thing apparently? Is Multiplayer usually only localized or reserved to friend codes? Also, some games even for WFC connectivity require registered friend codes?

Multiplayer and wifi are different yeah.
Multiplayer is when you can use only 1 DS cartridge to play against someone else who has a DS, upto 100 meters or so away.
Meaning you don't both have to have the game cartridge to play.
Wifi is when you connect to a hotspot such as your own PC router's internet connection, or a USB stick that you can place in your PC that creates a wireless connection.
It's basically the internet, but for the DS, and you can play against people world-wide, and not the limit of 100 meters which multiplayer is.

Early yesterday I ordered the M3 DS Simply, but since then I've read that the USB MicroSD card reader included with the product is of poor quality. Is the reader really that bad? I was planning on using it, but is it so risky that I should buy another one? I'm having some trouble trying to find a definitive answer on this, so I'd really appreciate an answer if anyone has one. I'm totally new to this stuff.

I use the USB reader all the time with no problems. Worst thing that it has ever done is the casing of if fell apart when I dropped it on a hard floor, simply clipped it back together and continued using it.
