Hi guy's, I've done an exhuastive (atleast it feels that way) search of this site, and google, and can't seem to find a solution to my problem.
I have a Toshiba SD-R5002 (dvd-rw) with the lastest firmware and whenever I try to burn something to my Ritekg05's it doesn't actually burn anything to the disk's. The program(s) go all the way to the end (nero, alcohol 120%, DVD Decrypter) No error messages, no weird sounds, no gremlins jumping out of the pc and kicking me in the nuts, NADA.
Anyone have any idea how I can get around this.
TIA

I assume that you have treid the disc in other machines and confirmed that the disc is actually empty?
Have you also confirmed that you have selected the burner to be used for the burn - ie not simulation/test mode etc?

Yep and yep. I have managed to make it burn twice but with error's, both time's I was trying to back up a PS2 game. Was using DVD Decrypter, have tried it since, but doesnt even come up with the error message now. Could it be a problem with the burner or my system?

Well, what I would do is to try and just copy some normal data dvd's.
If you have some 'stored' files/folders etc on your hard drive then just try and burn them over using Nero and see if they actually go on.
Then if you could try the burner in another machine aswell to confirm the burner is acually working correctly.
Usually during the burn process, there are checks to see the data has actually been transferred and if not you would get errors.....
You said it has the latest firmware, was this as supplied or have you flashed the firmware yourself?
Just wondering if there is an issue with the firmware.
Have you tried another brand of media aswell?

Post your DVD Decrypter "error log" if there is any - this will help others to help you better. Use Decrypter to ISO, Read into your HD, then once it's done, used ISO, Write to your burner. I've burned at least 10 - 15 PS2 games with Decrypter, yet haven't had any problem with it.
Note: click the .MDS file instead of ISO - or Decrypter ususally does it for you anyway. Keep in mind though, if the file is more than 4.5gig, that may be an issue with Decrypter, and you might need to rebuild it with ISO Buster or other prog.

Any ideas?
I think an I/O error on DVD Decrypter usually means "scratch, bad disc, or bad pressed disc." Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

@alkohol - not quite, he's having trouble with burning to blanks... which would initially smell of crap blank media but we'll need more info from him...

did someone say crap media? or am i hearing things? lol
while in the initial post, kelewan states he's using the RitekG05s..which I PERSONALLY think are very decent and i have had NO problems burning on them in the past. others will jump in and disagree with me since i KNOW lot of people complaing about the G05s and say nothing but good things about the earlier G04s..blah blah blah...:) but, i also do use many different burners, none of which is a Toshiba, so, i don't know about that~
as others have stated, will need more info on setup and/or burn logs before we can determine whether you need to try new media or it's hardware/software related.

hiya creaky~ good seeing you on at this time~ i can only offer my advice on 1/2 of the problem, media only, the other parts i will leave to the others as you said...

@Kelewan, re-reading the entire thread i still think it's worth looking at logfiles. I myself am better equipped to look at Nero logs than Alcohol 120% or decrypter et al (maybe it's just me but Nero logs are quite easy to follow). Post a section from Nero log, and other logs as the answers are often hiding in there somewhere.
@Kivory666 - yup, it's early morning at work here for me, 09:03. a whole day to go yet but at least i escape at 4pm for a weekend of (hopefully) better weather to booze, sunbathe on roof of boat, watch more x-files/movies, reply to more posts and generally chill out. However methinks the weather will be pants and i will be x-filing/movie-ing and afterdawn posting !!. Afterdawn addict hear i come lol.
edit- and i MUST go see Revenge of the Sith this weekend. Have still got a set of the original Star Wars bubblegum cards i used to swap in the playground at primary school!, only 1year to wait to have the last episode on DVD.. I'm a big kid!

@kivory666 - dunno, i guess ppl start to recognise your name and take you more seriously (as long as you get stuff right i guess!).(saying that i s'pose i tend to look at what's said first, then the name of poster, then the status, in that order).
I know i recognise a lot of regulars on here and have much regard for their knowledge (yourself included of course). It's only been 4months since i signed up here and i already recognise a lot of knowledgable posters by their content before i notice their names.
I had nice comments from mort81 & arniebear last night, made it worthwhile spending so much time posting.. cheers again guys!

i don't wanna get jumped on for veering (further) off topic, BUT i found this joke about Revenge of the Sith, and it's just begging to be included -
Quote: Of course, the entire film itself was made on a computer. (OK, two computers)
You've all heard how George Lucas delayed production on the prequels because technology couldn't adequately produce the special effects he wanted.
The real reason for the decades-long gap in films is that Lucasfilm had been using computers since the early 1980s for the digital effects, and the computers only finished rendering frames fairly recently. Digital rendering takes time on a bunch of 4.77 MHz machines.
. Sorry, just couldn't resist :)

Have changed the IDE and set the DVD-RW as master an successfully burned a couple of music cd-rw's. Gonna try a PS2 backup, will update you when its done.
