as the title suggests i ordered a flip top lid after using swap magic with a slide tool. i figured it would make my life easier
now every time i turn it on with ANY disc in the drive it goes to the
browser
system configuration
screen
if i go to browser it says no data (unless there is a memory card inserted, in which case the memory card still shows up)
have i busted it?
i did try to be careful but i fear i have done something wrong and messed it up

Try cleaning the laser first, might have touched it or something. Does it play other games?

if it was working before you disassembled it to install the flip top and now it's not spinning up at all i would have to assume something became disconnected durring the installation process.

What are some of the sites in America that offer the "new and improved" slidecard and fliptops for the PS2 at decent prices?

you're fliptop hinge is not contacting the door close switch inside the case. Happened to me also. try gluing a piece of small plastic in between the hinges at the end. Fixed my issues.

i suggest that you ask around or go to pawn shops for used ps2, and use them as practise mods. Also, use them to eximine the parts inside, and look at what you may have done wrong. This why it is only a small cost compared to $200. Also, you could sell them for parts when done...As the saying go you learn from mistakes....and practise makes perfect.
Thank you and good look :)

Is it possible for u to put the original cover back on? If I were u I would try that, and then if it works, then its def a problem in the installation of the flip top. Something like this happened to me once, when I took apart my PS2, and put it back together. It turns out, in the proccess i had disconnected a wire running to the laser. Good luck, and hope this helps.

its the ribbon that is connected to the reset and pwr buttons on the front, there is a screw hole there also and if your not carefull you can actually screw right through the ribbon or pinch it when you put the fliptop casing on..

I know a guy whom you can send it to, he'll fix it and mod it. He repaired mine for $65, but that was because i also sent him the Chip.Yours might be a bit more costly. I received the PS2 and backups play flawlessly, knock on wood, lol
