shipping a properly packaged ps2 to the states would cost ridculous ammounts of money

it only worth me getting it fixed if its local and cheap for two reasons

a) i already went out and bought a slim

b) with ps3 right round the corner i would rather save the money

however if anyone knows somewhere in uk let me know

does anyone have and experience or dealings with www.ps2repairs.co.uk?

I dont think it's broken yet i had the same problem.
what i did was open my ps2 again and remove the little piece of plastic between the reset and eject button on the fliptop cover (made it fit better) then i put the cover back on firmly.

Try that and if it still doesnt work put someting heavy on the lid and see if that works.
