I was able to copy a DVD, I only did this for my grandchildren, when the would borrow a movie I got for them to view at my home and they took it home , I never got it back or is was so badly abused it couldn't be watched again. So I decided to make a copy for them, never knowing it would be such a big job. Well after downloading and purchasing several programs and a DVD recorder I was able to do so. Now that they are putting new coder on the DVD I am having some difficulty. I was using DVD Shrink and then would use My Roxio Burn program, things worked fine. I had originally down loaded DVD Professional and one of the programs in it is DVD decript program, well now when I copy the DVD if it is a new release I am finding that I can't so I need to Decript it so I can shrink it so I can copy it, sometimes I wonder if purchasing two movies at one time would be better, any way , when I go to use the DVD decript program it said that I didn't have an ASPI, to go download ForceASPI and I did and I guess I don't know or am tired of trying to figure out how to make the connection so it will work. Are there any simple rules. I have windows xp I have a Dell Inspiron 600m it is centrino technology, it was one of the first centrino to be released. I would love to be able to copy movies so my grandchildren won't destroy mine I have about 400 movies and have too much money in them for my children to not take care of them. And I really hate to purchase any more programs, I have purchased so much already to find that I didn't need half of it, I need to decript, I can shrink and burn, I just can't decript, Can anyone help. Thanks

Hi, you really only need two free programs to start out with and that is DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter, available at this site. Just scroll down to bottom of page and download

http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/index.htm

Then read the guide on burning with Shrink and Decrypter

http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide3.html

or DVDDecrypter available her also

You should not need an aspi if you are running XP that uses SPTI. I would try using these programs over the Roxio. If it still states you need an aspi layer go here and follow the instructions

I did what you suggested, I'll give it a try and let everyone know how it worked out. In the beginning I could use DVD Shrink and then burn the DVD, Now I wasn't able to shrink the DVD, I don't know if they are useing a different method of codeing them or not, however I redownloaded the information you suggested and I'll give it a try, Are We There Yet, is the DVD that is giving me fits. Racing Stripes, I did it but I had to do it in safe mode on my PC to make it work, but it did. Again, I'll do as you suggested and let you know

thanks

You are not alone there are a lot of people who are having problems with Are We There Yet, but Racing Stripes has no special protection and should not have been a problem. What you should do is not try doing the whole movie but use Shrink in re-author mode and do just the movie itself, this often works especially on a Disney movie like Racing Stripes which has a lot of compression. You can try DVD Decrypter in the mode for Hard to Rip movies for Are We There Yet. But you might want to try the three week trial version of AnyDVD. This program just runs in the background and breaks the encryption on the movie, you can then run Shrink and do not need to use Decrypter. You can also try the three week trial of CloneDVD2 which works like Shrink in which it will compress and encode your movie, it is faster.
These can be gotten at
