I have tried unsuccessfully 3 times to copy Passion...however I have not had ANY of the problems any of you have. I get all the audio, all the subtitles. My problem is that the end of the movie (the only part I've watched of the copy) skips A LOT. So I put in the original and it does not skip at all. Tried copying again the same way, got same result. Got on here and read this entire thread putting all the various suggestions into effect....same result except now its much worse. Does anyone out there know of anything in particular I may be doing wrong? Here's what I'm using:
pentium 2.4
1GB ram
sony DVD+/- R/RW
DVD-Shrink 3.1.7.6
Also, the first and second times I copied it I left everything as is, the third time I took out the DTS audio and wound up with some horrible narrator...how can that be turned off?

Thanks in advance to all who can help!!

I only had problems one time with the end of another movie not working right. After close examination of my Verbatim discs, I found that there were pits, or imperfections, on the bottom 3 discs of my 50 pack. I bought another 50 and found a couple on the very bottom of that pack were the same way. Once I changed media to Ridata, everything was fine. I inspected all 100 Ridata discs and found no flaws. The end of the movie must be recorded at the outer edge of the disc. Take your bad copies and inspect the outer 1/4" real closely.

And don't rule out the obvious... maybe its the player, and your backup is fine?

That is a good idea. I looked at the outer edge of all 3 copies and they all look great. The PS2 I play them on skips with the copies but not when I play the original. I have since successfully copied "High Fidelity" flawlessly using the exact same method I tried on Passion, and have used on all the other 100+ DVDs I have backed up. Does anyone know of any other tricks that I can try??

Well... with the exception of using more compression to fit it not so near the end of the disc, Im not sure I can think of anything else to try.

I can tell you this. I did it. And it worked fine. I used decrypter to rip it, and shrink to burn it. And I got rid of as much of the "fat" as I could, because of it's size.

My best guess is try different media. I used Ridata 4X DVD+R. Really good, really cheap. The media I had trouble with was Verbatim, at double the price.

I tried compressing it further and you were absolutely right, that's all I needed. I made the total size of the disc 4G even, and no skipping whatsoever. Thanks so much to all who responded.

I'm glad that did it, but just so you know... you shouldn't have had to. Mine worked fine on 4.37 Gig. If I were you, I would look really closely at the media for flaws. Or just try another brand with the same movie and see. I have had perfect luck with Ridata 4X DVD+R (even burning at 8X with my Plextor PX712a). I did have the same problem you are having, when I used Verbatim 12X dvd's. But like I said, only on the last 3 in the pack.
