Does this all seem odd to anyone else?

All the things a person needs to do to get torrents to work in the 1st place and then all of sudden I have to turn off pretty much any and all security to download a torrent from this site when every other torrent site works just fine.

Sounds like bad mojo to me. I guess it could be for a few reasons. The site admin is a has lost his marbles? They want you to turn off pop-up blockers and content filters so you have to see thier ads? Or there could be a bunch of other reasons.

I'd stay off the site til they fix it or til they get shut down.

I read some of the posts and have also seen the message on suprnova. Nothing changed on my system. Worked with Norton just fine before, worked with XP SP2 just fine before.

I had the same problem. What are they thinking. To suggest that security be turned off to enable a file download from a site which uses ads and popups so heavily is plain stupid.

It used to work with SP2 and windows firewall until a few days ago.

FIX: Use Firefox (1.0RC or above) and it worked just by left clicking as normal.

I had tried everything, firewall, intalled norton, tried getright (sucks by the way in my opinion).

everyone still having trouble? i was toying around with stuff and it started working again in ie (though i believe everything is set back the way it was before).

security note: they are only asking that you allow your browser to inform the download server that you were directed to it from their site. i think there were other problems, but as far as that goes, you should be able to setup a rule to send the referer info to their dl site only. not much of a security breach then.

It has to be IE, simple. Mozilla and opera worked for me. Yet I haven't seen an option in advanced settings regarding the forced inclusion of http referrer, please update me if you find it.

I've tried this in IE6.0, Netscape7.1, Firefox1.0, Getright & Reget on Win2K SP4. I've also tried with Mozilla 1.2.1 on Redhat8.0 on a separate box. Zone alarm was set correctly on Win2K. I'm left thinking it's either my ADSL router or my ISP.

Nah, me think it aint about no settings and all that !

Because I did try, and some files are still OK to download but some are not. (all files from the same suprnova.org website)

So why is it that they accept my requests on certain files, yet they reject on some other files ???(using the same PC setting)

me PC :
1. WinXP Pro SP1
2. Norton Internet Security - enabled, but disable / untick the 'Enable Browser Privacy' on Norton Internet Security -> Privacy Control -> Configure -> Custom Level.
3. No download manager.

Hope this helps.

I decided the working torrents were the older ones, but that may be coincidence.

Well I think I fixed mine

I'm running SP1 and ZoneAlarm

I went into Privacy Control and searched for the actual IP of the suprnova site

My IP turned out to be 66.90.75.92
I turned on allow private header and relaunched IE6

Now I'm able to open my torrents in ABC 2.6.9

May require configuring for Nortons or Windows firewall

Hope this helps :)

ok guys heres my story
it started even b4 i got sp2

same error as you lot.i hadnt changed anything then bang no joy.

ive turned of all security ie norton etc enabled the referer but still no joy

as with other people other sites work.

now heres the good news if you right click on the torrent butttttt dont save as

instead open in new window it buffers it to abc and downloads ive tried it it works even if you close abc
just open the abc program and it starts no need for the torrent file you tried to save.

hope this works for you but if anyone finds a cure to this problem let us all know

cheers

At last, a simple answer that ACTUALLY works - god bless you!

Just a thought - a lot of people are saying this is due to the install of SP2. Is this because (as I have heard) that installing this pack automatically turns on XP firewall???

Just a thought, and I'm probably so far off
the mark....

And shame on you suprnova for forcing people to disable ad blockers and security - I hope this paves the way for another site to take on the tag of essential bittorent site.

Not for me it doesn't though the top of the web page there is a box that says "This is a mirror generated on...." etc.

I thought the error was saying mirrors were not allowed!

Confused as to why others are having luck with this and not me! Is anyone else still having an issue!?

glad it works for some of you, but just to clarify this will only work with ABC and the matter of them saying mirrors wont work, what they mean is only UNOFFICIAL MIRRORS so make sure you use a official one only. its not a problem with sp2 because this happened to me 1 week b4 i even installed it. what i can gather is suprnova want a referer back from your pc and have blocked anyone that tries to download without sending one back to them the only thing is theve done it in such a way as many pcs have loads of diffrent ways of blocking the referer. i know why suprnova have done this to protect there bandwidth but im sorry suprnova if you dont change your policies people are going to go elsewhere!!!!!

ps with the ever current threat of viruses etc DO NOT FOLLOW suprnovas advice and turn of your firewall and protection that is just plain STUPID.
I ONLY DID IT TO TRY SOLVE THIS.
so be warned DONT DO IT. i took of all antivirus and firewall the whole kit and caboodle and still it stopped me!!

GOOD LUCK!!

Well then I guess the only thing left to do is actually go elsewhere! Can I suggest DC++ to those who do not mind sharing files with other users? I am having great success with this and am happy to say the download can be much quicker than torrents. It does have some downsides. You are at the mercy of people?s bandwidth speed (though I think some channels only let a certain speed in) and there is sometimes a queue. But it is still good.

And if you click on the info links next to the torrent (if there is one) you can get an idea of where to get the file direct from the person who put the tracker link on Suprnova.

Sorry to say it but I have tried everything and it does not work for me at all. Shame on you Suprnova. I agree, security is important but now, by accident or not, you have put that ahead of the users own security and functionality of the site, which to many users means the wonderful torrents we loved are soooooooo out of reach.

SP2 I now know is not responsible so I take my hat off to Microsoft for a job well done... so far I like what it adds to the system.

This is there way of nixing "leechers" from posting their torrents on other sites. They use some type of referrer checking, which I'm still trying to figure a way around... But I can get the torrent to download (temporarily) and run, but I can't get it to store itself in a file...

Hi all,

having tried the suggestions in this thread and others that didn't work (firewall/virus/cookies etc etc)I have found something that does. Hope this sorts it for some of you ?

I installed Mozilla Firefox along side IE6. Using Firefox if you right click on the torrents and do "save as" you get the same HTML error as before. However if you left click you have the option to save to disk or run from application. If you save to disk the first time it seems to work but the torrent is only 3k big or so and opening it fails. If you save again though it creates the torrent again at full size and working fine. No idea why it does this on the 2nd occasion but has worked everytime for me (30 odd times)

Now I'm using Firefox I like it better than IE so have made it my default browser but you don't have too.

Hope this helps some of you ?

Cheers.

Solution for saving torrents with IE6
open control panel clasic view
choose folder options
choose file types
scroll down to torrent
choose advanced
check confirm open after download
hit OK and Close
- now just left click on the torrent you wish to download and choose save

-hope this helps

cheers for that rls, unfortunately, for me anyway, I had already tried that before using FireFox browser and it makes no difference. Just redirects you to the html screen when you left click.

May work for some of you though, so give it a go I guess.
