tomripley, you obviously have a serious reading problem. You clearly implied CMC and MCC were the same corporation in your earlier post, read it yourself. I am well aware of MCC tommy as well as CMC and CMC makes SOME of the media for MCC using MCC's dyes, etc, but they also produce their own media for Verbatim as well as about 4 other manufacturers which you have failed to mention probably because you have no clue who they are.
You also continue to write meaningless words as you have yet to respond to the question I asked which is how many people do you think realistically have the faintest of clues that Verbatim doesn't produce their own media? I'd bet somewhere around 90% or more of the people who purchase DVD media think that the DVD media they purchase is manufactured by that company which is why they purchase it to begin with. Any info in docs means zilch as it will just cover the corporations in the event of a law suit and protects them. But the actual deception is very great especially when Verbatim as well as many other corporations are well aware of having some higher quality discs manufactured from certain plants while they can save money having lower quality discs produced from another.
You probably have no clue what i'm talking about, and that's fine, but do a little more research for yourself first and then actually answer my question, don't answer questions I never asked because you were clueless about CMC and MCC then did your google search to try and save face.

Fine, let's see what I wrote I in my first post:
Quote:How so? Verbatim has never promised anybody that they own the factories that produce the discs, only that they will deliver high-quality media.
Sure, they may have outsourced the actual production to CMC, but they're still made using MCC dye and stampers (and I would guess they've also specified a certain level of quality assurance, etc).
I've never seen any hard data to support the idea that Verbatim media from their OEM partners is of a poorer quality than that from their own factories in Singapore or Japan. Not that it couldn't be so, I've just never seen any convincing evidence for it.
Where does this imply that MCC and CMC are the same company? I explicitly mentions that Verbatim outsources production to CMC, which would very strongly suggest they are not the same company. And yes, I could have mentioned that they also outsource to other companies (Moser Baer and Prodisc are the ones I've heard about), but it wouldn't have made any difference to my argument.
Now, to ansver your question. Yes, most people are probably not aware that Verbatim outsources production. However, I also see no reason why they should care, as long as the actual product is of a good quality. You obviously think they SHOULD care, which would suggest that Verbatim media made by their OEM partners isn't good -- something you have yet to present any proof of.
BTW, when was the last time anyone received Verbatim dvd-media with a cmc media id? I haven't run into it for a long while, but would be interesting to know if it's still out there.
I think with Sonic, they are fairly new brand as far as media goes and so naturally people are going to question their product. Some links were provided in which people had some trouble while others have had no problems at all. It used to be that the media ID was the be all and end all but now with "fakes" being introduced into the market as something they are not, it has become increasingly more difficult to determine whether new brands or unbranded discs are truly made by a particular manufacturer. In those cases your really on your own. Generally speaking, you want to buy from a place that you trust. Shop4tech's FAQ asks this question:
What brands of DVD media do you recommend for most of DVD burners/players?
Their answer? Matrix, Sonic, Shop4tech, Optodisc, Ritek
These all happen to be brands that they sell. Would you rather trust the real source and pay a bit more but be sure or would you rather pay less and hope for the best?
The other side of the coin is that in time, Sonic may turn out to be good media because it gains in popularity and continues to perform well for people. Again, it's up to the individual.
