It sounds as if you have other things going on on your PC while you are burning movies. What I do is go to the run feature on my computer and type in msconfig. From there I click on startup and dis able all then reboot. I have nothing running in the background while I back up movies. That seems to create problems with quality, also another thing you can do is eliminate the menus and all the other junk. Just have the main movie only, I use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter try these they are free and use this guide http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/reccomended.html Good luck ---zen-->

I really don't think that's it, my PC is very high end, plus the DVD's I've burnt with it work on my other friend's players, just not mine, and like I said, it's not my players compatibility because the same disc made on my friend's burner works.

OK first off what burner do you have in your PC? Second and most important what type of balank media are you using? Third what brand Stand alone dvd player do you have?
I would definately chack to see what programs are running on your startup. It sounds to me that it is a compatability issue with your standalone. Is it old new...? SOme just like the - format or just the + format? I had the same problem with my first disc's. Would work on my mother inlaws player but not mine. What programs are you using to backup movies? More info would help alot, speed you are burning at.... etc.

Is the latest firmware for the Pioneer DVR 109 is it "DVR109_FW150EU2.EXE" ? I like to know because I'll be getting that drive soon from NewEgg.com,great price to $49.Best Buy has a sale on Memorex DVD -/+ r 16x pak of 25 for $10.00 so I bought 2 paks of the -r's,has anyone tried that brand with that speed on the DVR-109 and what results did you get ? My Pioneer DVR-107d performed flawlessly with the Memorex 8x -r's so I'm hopeing for the same results with this new drive I'll be getting. Thanks

Can you hear the rumbling of far away footsteps coming to condemn you for your purchase of memorex? I have a few crc mag disc's that I have had no prob's yet, I think some just want to rattle so brace yourself. As far as the firmware update, I have the 109 and haven't updated, It seems to do fine no problems. I don't see any benifits from it if you know of any let me know. ---zen-->

Zen, I know that memorex are not suppose to be any good but I have been useing them for over a year now and had 98% good results. And they are ones that I see are on sale most of the time. What firmware are useing for you DVR-109 ? The latest firmware is the "DVR109_FW150EU2.exe"Dated 5/28/05.I know it can get risky flashing hardware if its not good or right for it.I guess I'll see in acouple days when I get the drive....

Like I said I haven't updatd firmware at all, it seems to just fine for me. I love the burner. I have been using some cmc mag disc's that seem to be just fine as well ie memorex. I haven't had any probs yet. They say that they deteriorate with time , have you noticed that? ---zen-->

No not really but I just got the drive and put in.The firmware is 1.40 dated 3-14-05.Did a copy and it took over 9 1/2 mins to do on the memorex -r 16x,also tried Verbatim -r 16x and it took a little bit less 9:10.Are dose the speeds you're getting on the 16x -r's..

You know it reads around 10 x, but when I burn I keep it at 4x always for quality purposes. It seems to burn in about 8 - 12 minutes though.

Weird thing is when I burn with my 8x Mem. it says 12x but it takes the same amount of time as it did with my old pioneer Dvr-107 buner about 10 min.

I'm having this really weird issue with my Pioneer DVR-109,
IT happened not long after i installed Daemon tolls v4 on my x64 machine. for some reason now, i can use the thing, but burning software doesn't seem to recognise it, ie Nero, DVD-Shrink etc. the only one that does actually burn to it is Alcohol. realyl anoying thing is i can't make movies using Nero nemore in DVD format cuz it doesnt recognise i acutally have a DVD???
anyone who can shed light on this would be a star.
Oh i have firmware V1.57

I think that maybe the windows drivers for the dvd have been altered / corrupted somehow, does anyone have a copy of system32\drivers\cdrom.sys, imapi.sys, redbook.sys, storprop.dll.
Or if these are the wrong drivers that windows is using let me know.
Cheers

I am having trouble getting my system to always recognise a new dvr-109.
On boot-up the 109 is often not found or it will start to eject and retract the tray until it is powered off again.
When I did get the drive recognised I was able to upgrade the firmware to 1.58 but it is still hit and miss if it will be recognised on the next boot up.
I have the 109 set as master and it shares a cable with a CDROM that has no problems. I have also updated the BIOS on my motherboard.
Any other ideas?
