I guess I will address $ur first,
Saying the disc is crap after your first post leads me to beleive you are a retard rather than someone worth helping.
FIrst of all it states pretty clearly what this disc is in this post as well as the one I link to. Second of all the webpage you had to go to to download the program from also tells you what the program is and what it will do.
Third of all, I have reason to beleive that you have somehow decided this disc is going to work in a non modded ps2 and that you have no method of playing backup games.
If this is true then I really am to beleive you are an idiot and your discussion is OVER. otherwise explain your problem and I may be able to help
Mikey,
Some people that have used swap magic to run the disc have reported that they needed to use CDgen to make an image file for the disc first you can get that from here
http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=mis.html
WHen you make the image make sure that the DUMMY file is first, then the .CNF file is second, then the BOOT.ELF file is third. After that they can be in ANY order you want. Make sure all your roms that you want are on there as well when you do this or you wont be able to add them after.
That should help.
If that doesnt work, then stop being cheap and buy a direct boot mod chip it would solve ALL your problems!
As I stated before I do not own a swap magic set, and have never used one, or read how it is used. So I can only report what worked for others in this area. So to dissvalue my disc by saying it doesnt work with your "hack" item is really a low hit. I did not put as much effort into this as you may think, I made it for myself first and others wanted it, so I packed it up and made a quick readme for it. I doubt I spent more than 1 hour putting it all together and loading it to the website. But with over 2000 hits to my old site and who knows how many to my new site I can say that oviously some people are getting good use out of it.
Not to mention that I get about 10 emails a day now from people saying how great the app. On the other hand I get about 1 email every 3rd or 4rth day with people having problems. And 1 email a week for people that think it sux. So you are both in a small minority if you do not like the program.
And
If you think it sux, then just dont use it. Swap magic discs really defeat the whole purpose of this disc in the first place. I designed it to be that you NEVER had to change disks in the ps2 again, you could just turn it on and pick what you wanted to do. With swap magic you have to change discs anyway!!

GREAT NEWS FOR ALL USERS OF MY BOOT DISK.....
I am working on updating my version of HDDLOADER. I am adding CrazyC's patch for DUAL LAYER SUPPORT! That means you will all be able to run GT4 off your HDD with the new patched version. It will be included with a new version of my bootcd. I am also going to try and test USBadvance.elf and see if its worth including. my brother just got a slim PS2 so I will need to do it for him anyway, so I may as well include it if it proves half ways usefull.
I am just testing this stuff now and will have it updated in a few days. That is ....If it works!

o i made a topic regarding this disk cause i thought the topic was lost, glad ot see its still around.
how would you go about saving the configuration on the startup screen (the first screen where you can press button to go to diffrent programs)? i always get a "save failed" message. did i burn it wrong somehow or something?
also just thought of this, regarding dual layerd DVDs and such, can one of the programs in there now, or the one that you were talking about putting in, allow it so that games that would not normally work with HD loader work? like god of war, xenosaga 1 and 2, ect?
gracias.

I think anyone that says that your boot disk is crap, are F*cking ignorant to began with, I consider myself a newbie with all this and still manged to make it work perfectly. As far as the 8 character names for the roms to work, thats not true for flip top, the ext has to to be .smc,It will only show 8 character on the menu on Snes Station, but they do work. I did dl a bulk 750 Roms and they didnt show in my menu of SNES STATION on the PS2 so I checked the ext and they were all showing "file Type" under the ext, so I got a bulk renaming program and in a matter of 10 second all 750 Roms had, .smc added, made another disc and it worked perfectly..

thank you for the interest guys.
The patched version of HDLOADER that I will be including makes it so that you can use DVD decryptor to make ONE .ISO file of your dual layered dvd games, then you need to use winhiip to transfer it to your HDD and voila! the game should work. The patch was originally inteded for GOW but it happened to work for GT4 as well. From what I understand there are other games that work with it too. I do not know all the details. I have never even heard of these other games.
I can tell you for sure that I have succesfully patched my version of HDloader. I have GT4 chinese version on my HDD and running great. I am in the process now of backing up my GT4 english version and testing it. I suspect it will work just as well. I will be including a readme file that explains how to do the iso creation for anyone that really has no clue what I just said.
As for the menu problem with it not saving. I really am not sure what the issue is here. I have not had a problem at all with this not saving. I still do not know what format the file would need to be for the Cd to contain the data either. So I will not be able to do anything. If anyone can email me or PM ANY info that they may have collected on how this function works then I can try and implement it in my new version of the disc.
Also because we get idiots that think this is a replacement (or something) for swap magic and that they can use it to play backups I am thinking of a new name for my boot cd. I thought it was perfect at that since thats what it does. I am now taking suggestions for what a better name could be. If anyone has any ideas please post it here.
Otherwise look for an updated site with the new CD this weekend. I work nights (12 hours) for the next 2 days so I will get started on it on thursday. SO I may have it up as early as friday. I will post here as well when it is ready.
I also tested USB advance and it seems to work fine as well. SO that will be included in this new release.
Have any other sauggestions or ideas then let me know, so I can see if I can work it into the disc.

now that you have that working you can go over to my site again and try to download the new one. I just udpated the whole site. If your browser doesnt refresh it to the new one, then hold down control while you hit the refresh buton.
It should be completly different if it is working right.

you must be blind then. I just checked it and it is up. It takes a while for the server to actually refresh it as well. IF you try it now and its still not showing up then you will need to refresh your browser by forcing it to refresh.
The new download looks just like the old one. You will just have a few more .elf files in the cd folder, as well as a couple more read me's and a new program in the main folder.
If you cant see those then I guess you "must be blind"

Ahhh, stinky man, you have been there through all my problems. It's funny because every problem i have, you seem to have an idea about it or u've already fixed it I love it. I am loving your boot cd and am currently using it to send gt4 to the hd. However, i've been using faplink and that has that 2 gb limit on it; so, i'm thinking maybe with your new bootcd, if u're not done, of coruse,, u should add hdl_dumb 0.7.3. This allows you to send files over lan. Also, Stinky i really appreciate all the work you have put into this. You have paypal by any chance, would like to contribute a lil :)

And oh yeah, just to add on, I am going to take a look into how to make the configurations save on the mc. I have also had this problem but i am sure i can figure it out. I'll just look around for a bit. I also realized i could just add hdl_server into it instead of fap_link. Thanks again for all the hard work.

Weird cause I've been to his link. Also I've tested it on a cd-r with selected roms, limited b/c of space, then after trying it with dvd+R I realized my PS2 wouldnt read them, so I went out bought some dvd-r's and it worked perfectly. 1.7 gigs of roms!!!!!

Like i said Stinky, always true to my promises :D Through playing with my mc for a bit, i actually came by this by accident. When setting up my mc for hdl_dump, i had to create a SYS-CONF folder to put my ipconfig.dat into. When i did this, and then loaded your cd, it saved it into that directory. This is where launchelf gets its settings :D Thanks again

So, basically, if I create another directory inside the BOOT CD directory called SYS-CONF and put my edited launchelf.cnf in there and then burn the cd, it should load my config every time? Thoughts?

I understand what you are saying, but I am an installer and I need to make a config for launchelf that can be saved to the cd so that it is always the same no matter what. Does that make sense? People don't usually give me a memory card when I mod their system.

yo stinky after some serious reading and a few attempts
your cd works but more impressivly is the dvd works frickin awesome
i put all my snes roms(backups) around 720 or so and sega master system roms(backups)300 i believe--
and sega genesis roms(backups) like 400 all on one dvd plus i made a folder for 5 divx movies and an mp3 folder with 100 songs
and the dvd loaded and read all the roms perfectly havent tried the mp3,or divx but just the hdloader, files and emulators working perfect is enough to say your a genious
where do i send the cash) i use a swap magic version 2 with a non soldier chip that opens the ps2 disctray for like 5 sec without the ps2 nowing it has been opened--so hence the swap can happen
its awesome to have all those roms and stuff on a dvd that loads
the only thing i was wondering if its possible to do
is go back to your menu from the other programs or emus u no back to your main screen--but im assuming that would be a programming job for every program in there-
also how come we cant load or put a nes emulator on there if everything else works--i have itmightbenes on a cd and it works on ps2-- so how about it made genious
many thanks from a newbee----

Mikey, I never even though about putting the divx movies and a whole lotta mp3's on the boot disc as well. Maybe I will add a couple more folders for those so others will think of this too. That is a VERY good idea.
Everyone, if you are seeing my newest site you should see a grey, red and white theme. Anyone that wanted to donate to the "cause" will notice that I added a paypal donate button at the top of every page. Every little bit helps. Especially since I think I may hit the bandwidth limit with my free webspace and have to get some other space.
Synapse, I added winhiip to the files found on the cd, I beleive it does lan transfer as well. I find it to be slow though and my PS2 is connected through a shared wireless connection to my laptop. So I am not really sure what my PS2's IP even is. ALso you should be able to put the ipconfig.dat file right on the CD and have it load it off there. You may need to make that folder you were talking about first.
Mikey (again), I did not add itmightbenes because of some serious slow down issues with it on the better games. I wanted it only to be able to play excitebike and the mario series. But I have mario all stars on the snes so they are better there. Plus it plays great when you change the sound settings to mono instead of sterio. Once Itmightbenes is improved enough that it works better I will look at adding it, that is why a lot of apps are left out. There is no reason at all why you could not add the .elf file for it to your cd though and make a folder for NES roms as well. SOunds like you should know how to do that just fine.
For now that is all you guys are going to get. I was just too excited about FINALLY being able to play GT4 off the HDD! It loads so much faster. ALso a note that I did not include on the boot disc. If you are transfering GT4 or ANY other dual layer game to the HDD you HAVE to use the version of winhiip that I included with the cd. Otherwise you need a "special" patched version of HDL_DUMB. If you use ANY other program or version your game will NOT work. Some people have succesfully LAN'ed it over but said it was VERY slow. I included winhiip because it is the most user freindly, and I dont like messing with command prompt stuff. Especially when I could format my whole hard drive by accident by typing one wrong letter.
Hope you guys enjoy the disc and let me know if you have any other requests.
Oh, about the resetting to Launchelf once inside a different app. Unfortunatly that is a coding issue that I am not prepared to take on. And I really doubt it could be done anyway. Once you are in the new app you would need to add the command to reset the system on a certain button push combo. Plus if you are in HDLOADER and load into a PS2 game I would NEVER be able to code a reset switch into those. So you still have to get off the couch to hit reset when its time for a new game.
On that note though I have been looking at making my own remote reset switch that I would attach to my PS2 controller. I would run 2 wires along the controller cord (externally) and then make a quick connect on the ps2. Then internally (on the ps2) I would run them to the reset button. This way you can be on the couch and hit your remote reset and boot back into launchelf. This would be the ULTIMATE lazy mans tool. You would never have to get up unless nature called. But then you could always put the tv in the bathroom and sit there with your pants down. And then you REALLY would never need to get up!!
But thats a topic for another day.
