i'd reinstall Windows over the top of your current install (it will keep all your installed stuff and settings. That might do the trick, else you could be drastic and format/install from scratch. Or... could be something hardware related.
reinstalling over the top would keep all your settings, obviously you would have to pick same location for windows , ie c:\windows or whatever, same username etc ; i've done this many 100s of times thru different flavours of windows..
The first time I tried it it lockd up again. 2nd time it worked for a few minutes now it locks every time. Worse still the same thing is now affecting bNero Recode.
did you try downloading memtest86, fits on a floppy and you can reboot with the floppy and it tests out your RAM, quite straightforward... have a google for it.
Creaky, The saga contiues??.. I had a problem with Windows which basically locked up and wouldn?t let me in. After several various efforts I have now re formatted a disk and started again. I reloaded shrink and Nero and guess what???? They both still lock up. I have run memtest and there are no errors reported. I will not be beaten. I friend of mine (a MCSE and a shrink user) is convinced it is a clash with my sound card and the motherboards sound device. I am not convinced but I will give it a go, unless of course you have a better idea???
i would whip out the sound card then. Long ago on some machines i'd have trouble even installing Windows from scratch. The errors halting the install were crap and varied. The way round this would always be to remove all cards, do the install, then add later, one at a time. wierd!. It's a pain, but you could try that next ?.
