The Bundle i was using today is the VERBATIM DataLifePlus, DVD-R 8X with the orange notice for incompatibily for Pioneer A05/A06 drives. I know is MCC 02RG20, i was using a lot and a long time ago with X-MEDIA discs, was better than Prince discs. X-MEDIA make big change to magnifacturing with MCC last year. Many compagny who magnifacturing dvd media and drop the price make big turn to MCC.

Anyone else observed this?

I just bought Verbatim 16X DVD-R(MCC 03RG20), Advanced AZO, Made in Taiwan. Nero InfoTool reports the supported speed of the discs as "4X-2X-1X." Should not that indicate something higher, or is that the way the Nero InfoTool reports for discs like these? My LiteOn burner is rated as follows: DVD+R=16X, DVD-R=8X, DVD+RW=4X and DVD-RW=4X.

I just bought Verbatim 8X DVD-R made in Taiwan and my Lite-on DVDRW LDW-851S drive does not recognize the media. Once in a while it will recognize and start burning after 20 minutes. I have been using the drive for over a year and never have had the problem with any other media. Anyone know what's happening?

to BOTH of you guys, i think that an upgrade in FIRMWARE for each of your particular drives might clear up the situation~ it seems as if your burners, regardless of how new they are, are not up to date on the latest firmware, hence, the media is NOT recognized OR the rated speed for them is MUCH lower than expected~

i would suggest to both of you that a firmware update MIGHT resolve BOTH of your problems with Verbatim dvd-r made in taiwan media :) good luck~

my first pack of 16x is due tomorrow, but i'm away all week. However i do know that my drive has no newer firmware yet so will just do the dvdinfo/nero info-tool thing with the disks and probably shelve them 'til newer firmware comes out as i don't yet know if my firmware caters for 16x

@kivory666

I got the latest firmware from Lite-on's website (released in February 2005), flashed my drive, now everything works like a charm. Thanks for reminding about this. A couple years ago I flashed my Sony burner but just forgot about that for the Lite-on. Must be getting old.

Fly low.

gear79,

The best thing to do is crossflash your 1633 with 1653 led fix firmware. Makes it a much better burner. My litey is actually a SOHW-1633S@SOHW-1653S f/w CSOP. Let me know if you want the link to the f/w.

very good suggestion by mort81~ good lookin out buddy~ :) even though i have NOT crossflashed mine yet as it is on my 2nd machine, rarely do i use that burner...mort has FAR more knowledge on it than me~ :)

but, the one i have is this one:

DR16BS0S.zip Windows 560 KB 2004/12/24 Match more media

obtained here:

http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_firmware_dvd%20...

i use my Sony dru-710a and pioneer dvr-109 mostly for my backups; so i might be somewhat out of date for my lite-on and nec drives that are in my sig. regarding firmwares~ :)

speaking of Sam's Club and Verbatim, I have noticed recently they are out of 8x spindles of 50 for around 20$, and have seemingly replaced them with 16x discs in a 100pk for around 40$.

The only thing I noticed differently about this stuff is the 8x +R's have always said "A subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation" on the label, and the 16x doesen't say this...come to think of it, neither did my 8x +R 100pk of Verbs from newegg.

What the diff? Cause those 8x +R's in the 100pk really didn't behave like the Mitsu. labeled 50pks...

solargame, is that a question or a statement?
So far as I have ever seen, sam's has NEVER had 100pk DVD-R's for $20.00. perhaps you misread?

BTW:
I popped open the 100pk of 16x Verbs finally- the first few off the top had that light 'speckling effect' on the bottom, so I grabbed one from another few down, this doesn't to my eye have this defect. Hmnnn...

Testing now.

The reson why the country of origin varies in Verbatims is that they outsource some of their production. CMC for an example manufactures genuine Verbatim media.

My understanding is that there is no significant variance in quality, as the outsourced production DOES have the genuine Azo dye and should be manufactured according to the quality standards of Verbatim/Mitsubshi.

Verbatim Pastel series is an exception - the last time I looked, it was made by Taiyo Yuden.

We are currently running tests for Verbatim's 16x media, and the results so far are excellent. The review should be out in two weeks or so.

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !

Hey Daimyo:

I just saw the 16x dvd+r's 100 spindle at sam's for $41. Are yours inkjet printable like the ones here at sams? If so do they print down to the hub? What ID shows in dvdinfopro etc? The model # is 95415. Do you like them? Thanks much...
